Railroad One Access Road and Pedestrian / Bicycle Path

Although a portion of the Village’s Hudson River waterfront is privately owned, through the site plan approval process for the Discovery Cove condominiums and easements granted by the Metro North Railroad, the Village was able to provide a vital connection between Croton Point Park and the area to the north of  the Half Moon Bay Bridge. The trail utilizes part of the Discovery Cove property and runs east of the original Half Moon Bay project on Metro North land to the Half Moon Bay Bridge.

When the Half Moon Bay Condominium project was first approved the site plan called for a waterfront esplanade for pedestrian usage to provide public access to the Hudson River Waterfront. Access, however, was restricted to Croton residents.

In order to allow general public access along Croton's entire riverfront it became imperative to construct an alternate route from Croton Point Park to Senasqua Park. Working with the developer for Discovery Cove, Spectrum Skanska, in conjunction with Metro North and Westchester County, an alternate route connecting Croton Point Park to Senasqua Park was envisioned and designed.

Westchester County designed a layout utilizing the old Railroad One site to construct a second vehicular ingress and egress to the Discovery Cove/ Half Moon Bay property. A bicycle/walkway trail is also being constructed along this route which is being funded by Spectrum Skanska with an easement supplied by Metro North Railroad.

The second part of this trail runs north and south along the Discovery Cove/Half Moon Bay Condominium site and Metro North property. This part of the trail, which is now complete, was constructed by Spectrum Skanska with necessary easements supplied by Metro North and Discovery Cove.
