WHEREAS: the New York State Department of Transportation has requested opinions from both Croton on Hudson, the Town of Ossining, and Village of Ossining concerning interest in a connecting walk to include a sidewalk area protected from traffic for the planned replacement bridge, PIN 8010.01, Route 9/9A, over the Croton River, and
 
WHEREAS: the Village of Croton on Hudson for many years has been interested in a safe pedestrian access way to link Croton on Hudson with the Town and Village of Ossining, and
 
WHEREAS: the Village of Croton on Hudson and the Village of Ossining were officially designated on February 9, 1993, as Hudson River Valley Greenway Model Communities pursuant to Section 44-0107(13) and Section 44-0113(29) of the Environmental Conservation Law by the Hudson River Valley Greenway Communities Council, and
 
WHEREAS: the Hudson River Valley Greenway Act of 1991 creates a process
for regional decision-making and cooperative planning in the Hudson River Valley providing a voluntary partnership between local and state governments to encourage economic development while preserving the natural resources of the area, and
 
WHEREAS: one of the goals of the Hudson River Valley Greenway is the development of a Hudson River Trail incorporating existing riverfront trails, scenic highways, urban cultural park trails and riverfront parks and other public spaces, and
 
WHEREAS: the Board of Trustees of the Village of Croton on Hudson considers a connecting sidewalk over the Croton River bridge to be vitally important in addressing the goals and objectives of the Hudson River Valley Greenway Act and the goals and objectives of the Village of Croton on Hudson;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: that the Board of Trustees of the Village of Croton on Hudson calls upon the New York State Department of Transportation to include a sidewalk area protected from traffic in the plans for the replacement bridge over the Croton River and also to include the construction of a safe connecting walkway to Croton Point Avenue; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: that the Village of Ossining and Town of Ossining be called upon to support this project.
