Croton-on-Hudson 7th Annual Scarecrow Contest

Applications Now Open - Entries Due by October 2nd

The Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce will once again host the Annual Croton-on-Hudson Scarecrow Contest! Entries by individuals, families, teams, schools, churches, clubs, organizations & businesses are welcome! The goal of this contest is to create a gallery of fun, inventive scarecrows throughout the Village. Entries are due by Monday, October 2nd, and winners will be announced Thursday, October 19th. Croton Friends of History: Presentation on the Destruction of Riverside Avenue (@ Croton Library)

The Destruction of Riverside Avenue In September 1960 demolition began on Croton’s waterfront business district to construct Route 9. Riverside Avenue, from the intersection with Maple up to Farrington Road, was rerouted and most of the old buildings demolished. By the time the project was completed, parts of residential streets from Benedict Boulevard in Harmon up to Wolf Road were also eliminated, along with a beautiful Beaux Arts-style bridge across the mouth of the Croton River. Village Historian Marc Cheshire will recount the upheaval and loss from this seminal event in Croton’s history.

Village-Wide Tag Sale

Saturday, September 23rd, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

The Village of Croton-on-Hudson is pleased to announce that the 5th annual Village-Wide Tag Sale will be held on Saturday, September 23rd. There is a $10 registration fee per household to participate. No listings outside of the Village of Croton-on-Hudson please! A map will be published to highlight each residence that participates. Upper Village Walking Tour

Tour Begins & Ends at the Municipal Building Parking Lot
 

Join Village Historian Marc Cheshire for a walking tour of the upper village of Croton. Explore the history of buildings and streets in the heart of the village. Mobile Shredder

Westchester County is bringing the Mobile Shredder to Croton-on-Hudson on September 28th. Residents can bring up to 4 file-size (10”x12”x15”) boxes of confidential papers per household to Croton-on-Hudson from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for shredding. 
 
  • Please remove all large binder clips and covers. 
  • Papers from businesses institutions or commercial enterprises are not acceptable and will be rejected as will any junk mail or newspapers.
  • Hard covers – cardboard or plastic covers on items such as ledger books marble composition books and hard-cover books – cannot be shredded and will be turned away

39th Annual Croton Rotary Auto Show

Sunday, October 1st

The 39th Annual Croton Rotary Auto Show will take place on Sunday, October 1st at the Croton-Harmon Train Station. The show features classic cars and the Electric Vehicle Corral. There will be food and fun for the kids, with a special Balloon Show at 1pm.

Croton Business Council Oktoberfest

Saturday, October 7th (Rain Date October 14th), Noon to 6:00 PM
 
The Croton Business Council will host the Croton Oktoberfest on October 7 from 12 PM to 6 PM in the Upper Village on Grant Street. Over 65 Artisanal vendors from food, to drink, to retail, and a ramped up kinder-fest area for the little ones with bouncy houses galore and much much more! Live music all day, including The Blue Chips, Dos Belos, & The Black Coffee Blues Band. Shuttle bus transportation available from Croton Harmon Train Station all day long. Harry Chapin Memorial Run Against Hunger

The Harry Chapin Memorial Run Against Hunger will take place on Sunday, October 15th at the Croton-Harmon High School. There's a 1-Mile Fun Run, a 5K Race/Walk, and a 10K Race! The run supports the Croton-Cortlandt Food Pantry, Croton Caring, Caring for the Hungry & Homeless of Peekskill, Hillside Food Outreach, Feeding Westchester, WhyHunger as well as international organizations that fight hunger!
