Youth Fishing Derby at Croton Point Park

Saturday, April 6th - 10:00 am to 2:00 pm

Westchester County Parks and the Hudson River Fishermen’s Association will host their inaugural Youth Fishing Derby on Saturday, April 6, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Croton Point Park in Croton-on-Hudson. Children ages 8 through 16 are invited to participate. Adult/parental supervision is required. Equipment and bait will be provided, or you can bring your own. Check in is at 9:30 a.m.; derby starts at 10 a.m. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Pre-registration is required through Eventbrite for this free event. Rain date is Sunday, April 7. The Croton Arts Council: Make a Little Mama Workshop

The Croton Arts Council is excited to be offering a new series of fun and friendly art workshops taught by a local Croton artist this spring. The workshop series will kick off with the "Make a Little Mama" workshop on April 6th: Create your own clay totem to keep you connected with a personal intention in a thoughtful, artful way throughout your day. Sign up on the Croton Art Council's website. The registration fee is $65 per student which includes all materials. Class size is limited so sign up early!


C.L.E.A.N - Senasqua / Croton Landing Community Cleanup

The Croton Litter-Free Education Advocacy Neighborhood Initiative (C.L.E.A.N.) will host a Community Cleanup on Saturday 4/6 , at 3:00 PM, weather permitting. CLEAN is collaborating with Cub Scout Pack 28 on a joint effort to clean the entire waterfront this spring. Please bring heavy gloves and bright clothes. Meet at Senasqua Park. The group will be cleaning Senasqua Park and as much of the Riverfront as possible in preparation for the Village’s Earth Day Celebration.


2nd Annual Croton Gumbo Smackdown Competition

The 2nd Annual Gumbo Smackdown Cook-Off fundraiser will take place at the Green Growler on Sunday, April 7th at 3 pm. Five chefs will compete for the title of "Best Gumbo," offering their unique takes on this iconic dish. Tickets are $50 and include samples of each creation, the opportunity to vote for your favorite, and a choice of beverage. Proceeds will go to the Croton Business Council's Big Easy On The Hudson Jazz and Blues festival in May. Tickets are available at https://bit.ly/GumboSmackdown2024. Maple Commons Information Session

The application period for Maple Commons (43-45 Maple Street) is now open. The Village and Regan Development Corporation have scheduled a series of information sessions where interested individuals can ask questions about the application process and receive assistance in completing their application. Hudson River Education Seminar: Lighthouses Along the Hudson

On Friday, April 12th, starting at 7:30 PM, Scott Craven will be presenting “Lighthouses Along the Hudson” which will include photographs and discussion about the history and functionality of the numerous lighthouses along the Hudson River. Scott has lived along the banks of the Hudson River his entire life and is a boater, avid fly fisherman, hiker and historian. Scott is also an accomplished author and has recently co-authored the book “Croton Point Park – Westchester’s Jewel on the Hudson”. Scott has captivated audiences with his prior presentations and we are privileged to have him share his extensive knowledge and understanding of the Hudson River with you all. This event is free & open to the public.

Croton Point History & Nature Hike

Croton Point Park Naturalist John Phillips and Village of Croton Historian Marc Cheshire will lead a hike on Saturday, April 13, at 9 a.m. to explore Croton Point’s history, natural history, archeology, and geology. The hike will last roughly 1.5 to 2 hours. This event is free. Meet at the gate to the RV park, where parking is available. Ages 6 and up; wear sturdy shoes. The same hike will take place on April 27.


Douglas Dunn & Dancers: The Three-Body Problem

Douglas Dunn and seven of his company dancers, along with musician Jerome Begin, will present The Three-Body Problem, adapted for Croton Free Library's Ottinger Room. The audience will be seated along the long semicircular arc of windows. Dancers will perform for approximately 40 minutes, covering the spectrum from elegant to playful, with occasional moments of mischief. The performance will be followed by a Q&A moderated by curator Gabriella Hiatt. Free and open to all. This performance is appropriate for all ages. Registration is required! Babysitting 101

Potential babysitters can build essential skills for responsible childcare through this three-hour course offered by the Croton Free Library! Any student in grades 5-12 is welcome to sign up. Kathleen Berwick, a first-grade teacher, gives hands-on instruction on several topics, including interviewing and communication tips; ages/stages of young babies and toddlers; safety and first-aid; feeding and caring for children (including diaper changing). She will administer a simple test at the completion of the course and distribute certificates. Bring paper and pen – and your lunch! Free, but registration is required and space is limited! The Croton Arts Council is excited to offer a series of fun and friendly art workshops this spring taught by a local artist. The third workshop in the series is "3D Needle Felting Basics - The Art of Bringing Wool to Life": Come learn about 3D needle felting and have fun transforming fluffy wool roving into a cute miniature penguin that you can take home! It is a two part workshop that will meet on Thursdays: April 18th & April 25th from 7:00pm-8:30pm. Sign up on the Croton Council on the Arts' website. Demystifying MEDICARE and Healthcare Coverage for Seniors

Demystifying Medicare is perfect for anyone trying to navigate our complicated
healthcare system for older adults. It’s for people who already have Medicare, as well as those soon to be 65, planning their retirement, or assisting relatives and friends with
paperwork and medical decisions. In this engaging interactive session, you will learn about the various parts of Medicare and the costs associated with medical and drug insurance provided by the government and private companies. Topics include:

  • Original Medicare
  • Medicare Advantage Plans
  • Prescription drug plans (Part D)
  • Medigaps (supplemental plans)
  • Various cost-saving programs (MSPs, Extra Help, EPIC, etc.)

Transmission Lines in the Hudson River: What you need to know about the Champlain Hudson Power Express Project and Clean Path Project

In November 2021, New York finalized contracts for Clean Path, NY and Champlain Hudson Power Express (CHPE) to deliver onshore wind and solar energy from upstate New York and hydroelectric power from Canada to New York City. A significant portion of each transmission line route will be submerged under the Hudson River.  On April 26, Riverkeeper's staff attorney Drew Gamils and Habitat Restoration Director George Jackman will provide an overview of the Clean Path and CHPE transmission projects at the Croton Yacht Club. This overview will include a description of each project, status update on each project, and a discussion of the potential environmental impacts and the Champlain Hudson Environmental Trust. This event is free and open to the public. 


Earth Day Celebration 2024

Join the Village of Croton-on-Hudson and the Croton Conservation Advisory Council for the annual Earth Day Celebration! Over 20 vendors will be participating in this year's event. Attendees can expect to find representatives from local environmental groups, community organizations, and conservation initiatives, providing valuable information and resources on how individuals can take action to protect and preserve the environment. Families can look forward to child-friendly educational activities that will engage and inspire the next generation of environmental stewards. One of the highlights of the celebration is the popular tree giveaway, a tradition that encourages residents to plant and nurture trees to enhance our community's greenery and biodiversity. Additionally, this year introduces an exciting new addition to the event – the "Vote for Croton’s Flower" contest. Residents will have the opportunity to cast their votes for the flower that will proudly represent the Village of Croton-on-Hudson. Entertainment will include renowned Master Storyteller Jonathan Kruk, Janette Aiello from Little Genii Puppets Funny Fish with Chris Letts, Yoga with Cassie and music will be provided by Bobby G. and The Bohemians starting at 10:00 AM. Food options will include Wanna Empanada and Kinwich.


CLEAN 100 Yard Trash Challenge to Celebrate Earth Day

In conjunction with the Village's Earth Day celebration on 4/27, CLEAN Croton challenges you to finish the 100 YARD TRASH. The challenge is simple - outside your home, business or favorite spot in the village, clean up every piece of trash you can find within 100 yards. Send a picture of your haul that weekend to cleancroton@johnealer.com, along with the details of where you cleaned up and how much your haul weighed.

Croton FC Soccer Tryouts

Croton FC is a competitive Club/Travel program with nine soccer teams that play in the Westchester Youth Soccer League (WYSL). Croton FC will be holding open tryouts in April 2024 for the Fall 24 - Spring 25 season for (a) existing teams, and (b) to form new teams at the U9 level, boys and girls (2016 birth year).
