125th Anniversary Boat Flotilla

Event Date:
Saturday, August 19, 2023 - 11:00am to 1:00pm

Due to the impacts of 7/9/23 storm on the Croton River, this 125th Anniversary Committee event is being rescheduled for August 19, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The flotilla will be led by the Croton Police Department Boat. A light lunch will be provided at the end of the paddle.

B.Y.O.B - Bring your own boat! The Committee will not be supplying watercraft. Participants are welcome and encouraged to bring their personal kayaks, canoes, and paddle boards (no pool floats please). Life Jackets are required! Rental options will also be available - Hudson River Recreation is offering a special 20% discount on canoe, kayak, and life jackets rentals for flotilla participants. A coupon code will be mailed to you upon registration.

The flotilla has a 50-person cap for safety purposes. Each boater must register individually below (even if you are traveling in the same boat with another individual, each person must register separately). Registration is $10 per person, and includes lunch.

The Croton community is invited to float down the Croton River at this year’s 125th Anniversary Boat Flotilla, a floating parade hosted by the Croton 125th Anniversary Committee.

The floating parade will start at 11:00 AM. Boats will launch from Echo Canoe Launch, paddle up to Fireman's Island, turn around, and stop at Mayo's landing for a talk by Croton Historian Marc Cheshire about the flour and iron mills, the covered wooden bridge that once soared above the river and the Deep Hole below it, plus Prohibition-era raids on the Nordica Drive speakeasies and a few ghost stories.

The route is approximately 4 miles and will take about 2 hours to complete, and is considered a 2 out of 10 in difficulty level. Difficulty may vary depending on the flow of the current from the dam upstream.

The flotilla will be led by the Croton Police Department Boat. A light lunch will be provided at the end of the paddle.
