Disposal

Medications should not be put in the trash or down the drain.  Medications flushed down the toilet pollute the environment.

The Croton on Hudson police department has a drop-off box for medications and will accept all unused prescription and over-the-counter medications.  They should be in their original containers.

Any prescription or OTC pills, liquids, ointments and lotions as well as pet medications can be brought to the Westchester County Household Material Recovery Facility located at Grasslands Campus, 15 Woods Road, Valhalla.  Expired or unused pharmaceuticals are accepted on certain days each month, which can be determined when scheduling a reservation. Prescription or over-the-counter medications must be in their original bottle or container. Schedule a drop-off time here: https://environment.westchestergov.com/h-mrf-reservation

The County periodically holds a Household Recycling Day on a weekend at FDR Park in Yorktown Heights.  Most of the materials accepted at the H-MRF are also accepted on these days. More information here: https://environment.westchestergov.com/news/2583-household-material-reco...

Medical sharps are NOT accepted. Bring medical sharps to a hospital or nursing home that accepts them.
