Wireless Infrastructure Master Plan Study
The Village of Croton-on-Hudson has worked to improve wireless services in the Village for several years. In recent years, wireless carriers have co-located on the two towers that exist on Village-owned property at the Municipal Building (Village Hall) and Croton-Harmon Train Station. However, areas with limited or no service continue to exist within the Village boundaries. As more residents continue to exclusively use wireless service and discontinue landline service, these areas of limited or no service evolve from minor inconveniences to life-threatening. As a result, the Village obtained a consultant with expertise in wireless infrastructure to advise the Village on potential options to improve wireless infrastructure and update Telecommunications regulations.
On February 28, 2024, the Village Board received Local Law Introductory 5 of 2024 to repeal and replace Chapter 206, Telecommunications Towers, of the Village Code. This law replaces the existing 25-year-old legislation with a modern-day code chapter that incorporates the latest regulations from the Federal Communications Commission. This local law is a result of a months-long process undertaken by Village staff, the Telecommunications Advisory Committee and the Village’s consultant, Televate. The Board has referred the law to the Waterfront Advisory Committee for a statement of consistency with the Village’s Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP).
