Officer Profile: P.O. Jeremy Davis

PO Jeremy Davis

Officer Davis joined the Croton on Hudson Police Department in 2018 after having served seven years with the New York State University Police Department.  Officer Davis attended college in New York where he majored in Criminal Justice.  While many officers grow up knowing they want to be police officers, it wasn’t until officer Davis was in college and thinking about career possibilities that his father suggested he investigate a career in law enforcement. Officer Davis soon knew that police work was a good fit for him.

Officer Davis learned about the job opening in the Croton department while talking with a Croton officer at a training class.  Having grown up in Croton, he quickly applied and is happy working here.  Officer Davis especially likes the community policing aspect of Croton; meeting people is the part of the police job that officer Davis finds most rewarding.  He has spearheaded and attended many community policing events to include Coffee With a Cop, Cone With a Cop, the Christmas toy drive, and Fall fest. While he always enjoys hearing from people who are pleased with the work the department is doing, he is also interested in hearing from residents who have constructive suggestions for change or new ideas for the department.

Officer Davis completed training for School Resource Officers.  While Croton schools do not have officers assigned to the schools on a full-time basis, officer Davis believes such a program would be of enormous benefit to the students and teachers.  Having attended Croton schools, he feels a special affinity for our students and the school community.   He enjoyed working with students during his time with the State University Police and believes that police officers have a positive role to play in schools.  While some fear that arresting students is the main objective of police in schools, officer Davis dispels that notion, with a strong desire to use arrest as an absolute last resort with students.  He believes there are many alternatives to assist students that do not involve arrests. Officer Davis believes officers provide a positive role model, and mentoring students, interacting with them, and building relationships with them would help to guide students in a positive direction and thus removing any need for arrests or other negative outcomes.  He wants all students to succeed and find a positive direction for their lives.  His enthusiasm for helping students and all community members is evident within minutes of speaking with him.

Officer Davis’s family is proud of his work but looks forward to the time in the distant future when he is retired and with a better schedule, can spend more time with his family.  In his off-duty time, Officer Davis enjoys exercise, to include Jujitsu.  While officer Davis does not have formal music training, he also enjoys writing and playing music, with an innate talent of being able to play numerous instruments and sing.  He has his own viral YouTube channel where he plays all instruments and does all vocals.
