Dt. Sgt. John Smith

Sergeant Smith joined the Croton on Hudson Police Department in 2006, after having worked for the Goshen NY Police Department for two years.  While Sgt. Smith grew up in Orange County and enjoyed his experience with the Goshen police, he felt he wanted his career to have more opportunities.  Sergeant Smith visited Croton, loved what he saw, the area, the residents, and the department and has been very happy with his decision to come to Croton.

Sergeant Smith majored in engineering and architecture in college but when his father, also a police officer, suggested his son take the police exam, he found his calling.  He was quickly hired, and he has never regretted his decision to pursue a career in law enforcement.  He has always put others before himself, never hesitating to help people throughout his life.  Police work gives him the additional skills and experience to make a greater positive impact on the lives of others. He enjoys the challenge of detective work, knowing there are often no black and white lines, but simply degrees of gray.  He likes to find his way through the gray area to the best resolution in each circumstance. Every day brings a new challenge, and the desire to continue to do all that he can to help others is what inspires Sergeant Smith.

His family is proud of his career choice, and his brothers have joined him in law enforcement, although at different police agencies. In his off-duty time, Sgt. Smith likes to spend time with his family, and time outside pursuing various activities to include hiking, boating, fishing, and hunting.
