Weekly Police Blotter: July 26- August 1

Narrative: Patrol responded to a residence on Cedar Lane for an activated carbon monoxide alarm. Croton Fire Department also responded to the residence.

 

Narrative: A resident of Quaker Ridge Road in the Town of Cortlandt called to report falling and being injured as well as needing assistance getting up. The call was outside the Croton Police jurisdiction but Croton EMS was able to respond to the scene and provide assistance.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to a residence in the area of Hixson Road for a male with a medical issue. Croton EMS also responded but did not transport the male to the hospital.

 

Narrative: Patrol responded to the area of Sunset Drive for a motor vehicle accident.

 

Narrative: Patrol responded to the area of Grand Street and Old Post Road South on a report of a dog inside a parked vehicle with the windows rolled up. Patrol spoke with the owner, confirmed that the dog was ok, and corrected the condition.

 

Narrative: An owner of a residence on Grand Street called to report that someone possibly broke into one of his vacant apartments. Patrols responded and report that the locks had been changed by an unknown party. Patrols filed a report and an investigation is being conducted.

 

Narrative: A civilian turned in a wallet she had found at a local business. The desk officer was able to make contact with the owner of the wallet, who later came into police headquarters to retrieve it.

 

Narrative: A caller reported that a child’s bike was missing from a business in the area of Old Post Road South and Vassallo Park. The next day the bicycle was found by a neighbor who returned it to the owner.

 

Narrative: Patrols report conducting a traffic stop in the area of Route 9 South. Upon investigation, the operator, a 27-year-old resident of Ossining, was arrested for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation as well as other Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to the Van Wyck Shopping Center on a report of two dogs left alone in a parked vehicle. Upon patrols arrival the vehicle had already left the area.

 

Narrative: The police department received two calls regarding a group playing loud music on the banks of the Croton River. At that time the Croton Police Marine Unit was not on the River and the music was coming from the Ossining side. Ossining Police were contacted and responded to check their side of the Croton River.

 

Narrative: An alarm company called the police desk to report a utility alarm on Village property. Desk officer made the proper notifications to the Department of Public Works.

 

Narrative: Patrol responded to the area of South Riverside Avenue near Shoprite on a report of a vehicle parked perpendicular to the roadway. Patrol reports that the vehicle is legally parked in one of the numbered spots along that roadway.

 

Narrative: Patrol responded to a residence in the area of Mount Airy Road on a report of a child choking. Croton EMS also responded. Upon arrival the child was no longer choking and no further medical assistance was needed.

 

Narrative: Mount Pleasant police called to report that an assault had occurred in their jurisdiction and the suspect fled in a vehicle last seen on Route 9A heading northbound. Patrols responded to Route 9 to check for the vehicle. Shortly thereafter the vehicle was seen north of Croton on Route 9 and was continuing northbound.

 

Narrative: An alarm company called to report an alarm activation at a residence in the area of Gerstein Street. Before patrols were dispatched the alarm company reported that the homeowner had called cancelling the alarm.

 

Narrative: A resident of Ackerman Court reported that she just received a scam phone call from unknown persons trying to obtain her personal information. Caller realized that the call was a scam and did not give out any information.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to a residence in the area of Old Post Road North on a report of a female having a medical issue. Croton EMS also responded and transported the female to the hospital.

 

Narrative: After conducting an investigation, patrols arrested a former resident of Croton, for Criminal Mischief and Criminal Trespass in relation to an event that occurred on Grand Street on 7/26.

 

Narrative: Patrol responded to a residence in the area of Georgia Lane for an activated burglar alarm. Patrol reported that the house appeared secure. At around 1:03 pm, patrols responded to the same residence for another activated alarm. This time the alarm was audible outside the residence. Patrols checked the residence which appeared secure. The owner was contacted and was able to return home to reset the audible alarm.

 

Narrative: The police desk received paperwork from Family Court (including an order of protection and summons) that needed to be served to a resident of the Village. On 7/28, patrols were able to properly serve the paperwork to the intended party.

 

Narrative: Parking Enforcement responded to the area of Truesdale Drive on a report of a vehicle parked blocking a mailbox. Parking Enforcement reports that the vehicle was parked in a “No Parking” zone and a summons was issued.

 

Narrative: A caller reported that a dog may have been hit by a vehicle in the area of Grand Street. No description of the vehicle was given. At that point the owner of the dog was able to get on the phone and reported that the dog ran out from her backyard into the roadway. Nobody had actually seen the dog get hit by a vehicle. The owner reported that the dog appeared ok but frightened and that she was leaving to take the dog to the veterinarian.

 

Narrative: A caller reported that a tree had come up by the roots and was resting on the limb of another tree near the roadway in the area of Grand Street. Patrols responded and confirmed the situation. The NYS Department of Transportation was contacted and advised of the condition.

 

Narrative: A resident reported that her vehicle was struck in the area of Radnor Avenue while it was parked. The resident reports that a note was left on the vehicle. The resident wanted incident on record, but was able to contact the other party involved and settle the matter.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to Route 9 South on a report of a vehicle overheating on the side of the roadway. Patrols located the vehicle which was unoccupied off on the shoulder of the roadway. Patrols checked back later and the vehicle had left the area.

 

Narrative: The Real Time Crime Center of Westchester reported that a vehicle involved in a past domestic violence incident in Peekskill had just entered Westchester County on Route 9 South. Patrols responded to the roadway but did not locate the vehicle.

 

Narrative: Patrol reports conducting a traffic stop of a vehicle on Route 9. After investigation, a resident of Cortlandt Manor was arrested for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended Registration as well as other Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. they also had a bench warrant issued by the Village of Croton Court.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to the area of South Riverside Avenue on a report of a child walking alone. Child appeared to be about 5 years old and the caller had seen the child walk across the pedestrian bridge and then along South Riverside Avenue. Patrols located the child, who was 6 years old, and returned the child to his residence on Grand Street. Patrols spoke with the mother of the child who had been unaware the child had left the residence.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to the area of Hastings Avenue on a report of a tree limb down. Patrols report area cleared upon arrival.

 

Narrative: Police Desk received a call for a utility alarm on Village property. Desk officer was able to make contact and advise the Department of Public Works.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to the Croton Harmon High School for an activated alarm. Patrols checked the building and everything appeared ok.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to a business on Half Moon Bay Drive for an activated alarm. Patrols checked the location and everything appeared secure.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to the area of Sunset Drive on a report of wires sparking and tree limbs down. Croton Fire Department also responded.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to the area of Grand Street near Maple Street on multiple reports of a tree down on wires. Croton Fire Department also responded. The roadway was shut down. Con Edison eventually responded to the scene and cleared the roadway.

 

Narrative: Patrol responded to the area of the Hudson River on a report of a vessel taking on water. Patrol located the vessel at the beach area of Croton Point Park where Sea Tow retrieved the vessel.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to a residence on Grand Street for possible electrical fire. Croton Fire Department also responded. Patrols report no fire. CFD checked the residence.

 

Narrative: A resident of Grand Street reported that her carbon monoxide alarms were activated. The Croton Fire Department was contacted and were able to check the residence.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to the intersections at Old Post Road South and Maple Street, Maple Street and Municipal Place, and Grand Street and Old Post Road South to place portable stop signs up. Due to the storm and power outages the traffic lights were not functioning.

 

Narrative: An alarm company called police headquarters to report activated alarms on Village property. Desk officer made proper notifications to the Department of Public Works.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to a business on Maple Street for an activated alarm. Patrols checked the business which appeared secure.

 

Narrative: A caller reported that a water main had burst at his residence in the area of Grand Street. Desk officer was able to notify the Croton Water Department. Water Department staff responded and reported that the leak was coming from the homeowner service lines.

 

Narrative: Patrol responded to the area of Grand Street on a report of a vehicle parked opposite of traffic with headlights on. Patrols report that the vehicle is working for Con Edison in the area.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to a business in the area of South Riverside Avenue for an activated alarm. Patrols checked the business and all appeared ok.

 

Narrative: A caller from out of state reported that another family member may be harassing his mother, a Croton resident.

 

Narrative: A caller reported that his Optimum service is out, possibly due to a downed cable wire. Patrol checked the area but could not locate a cable wire down.

 

Narrative: The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation called to advise that they have several divers in the Croton River near Black Rock Park working in the area for the morning.

 

Narrative: Patrol responded to a residence on Farrington Road on a report of activated carbon monoxide alarms. Croton Fire Department also responded.

 

Narrative: Skyview Nursing Home called to request an ambulance for a patient. The desk officer was able to contact Croton EMS who then responded to the location.

 

Narrative: Patrol responded to a residence on Half Moon Bay Drive for an activated carbon monoxide alarm. Croton Fire Department also responded.

 

Narrative: A caller from a business on Maple Street called to report damage to items in front of the business. Damage occurred sometime after close the prior day. Patrols responded. Patrols report damage was most likely caused by the storm that occurred the prior evening.

 

Narrative: Skyview Nursing Home called to request an ambulance for a patient. The desk officer was able to contact Croton EMS who then responded to the location.

 

Narrative: Caller from a business in the Van Wyck Shopping Center reports young men soliciting in front of his business. Patrol responded and issued the parties involved a verbal warning.

 

Narrative: Con Edison called to advise that they were shutting the road down on Grand Street to repair a transformer damaged in the recent storm. At approximately 1:30 pm the road was reopened.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to the area of Route 9 on a report of a large piece of metal in the roadway. Patrols checked the area but did not locate any objects.

 

Narrative: Patrol reports conducting a traffic stop on Route 9. After investigation, the operator, was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended Registration.

 

Narrative: Security at Half Moon Bay Drive complex called to advise they were towing a vehicle which had been parked in an unauthorized space for several days on their property.

 

Narrative: Caller reported losing a set of keys in the area of Georgia Lane.

 

Narrative: Patrol responded to a residence on Half Moon Bay Drive for an activated fire alarm. Croton Fire Department also responded. Alarm was set off by a contractor working at the residence.

 

Narrative: Caller reported finding a loose dog at the Croton Harmon High School. The dog did have a collar and the desk officer was able to check the license listings and contact the owner. The owner responded to the school to retrieve the animal.

 

Narrative: Ossining Police called to relay the report of an erratic driver on Croton Point Avenue. Patrols responded to the area but the vehicle had already left.

 

Narrative: A caller reported a loud sound of cutting metal coming from a business on Grand Street. Patrols responded and report that the only sound from the business is the sound of dish washing.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to the CET school for an alarm activation. While in route, the alarm company called to cancel the alarm.

 

Narrative: Patrol responded to the Train Station on a report of a train fire. Patrol reports that an Amtrak train experienced an odor of burning. Croton Fire Department also responded and checked the train.

 

Narrative: A civilian came into Police Headquarters to report leaving his phone at a business on South Riverside Avenue. He reports that somebody then took the phone and was able to transfer money from his PayPal account. A patrol officer interviewed the civilian and an investigation will be conducted.

 

Narrative: A caller reported a vehicle speeding and driving erratically on Route 9 approaching the Ossining border. The desk officer was able to contact the Ossining police and advise them.

 

Narrative: Patrol responded to Route 9 on a report of construction debris in the roadway. Patrol was able to move the debris to the shoulder.

 

Narrative: A caller reported witnessing a gray sedan swerve across 3 lanes of traffic, strike a guiderail, and stop on the shoulder on Route 9 near the Croton Point Avenue exit. Patrols dispatched and checked the area but could not locate the vehicle. A patrol officer then located a vehicle matching that description with damage at a gas station on Croton Point Avenue. Three males were standing next to the vehicle but none of them would cooperate when the officer asked if they were involved in the accident.

 

Narrative: Patrol responded to a residence on Half Moon Bay Drive for an activated medical alert. Patrols spoke with the individual involved who did not need medical assistance.

 

Narrative: Patrol responded to a residence on Grand Street for a male having a medical issue. Croton EMS also responded and transported the male to the hospital.

 

Narrative: Patrol responded to Route 9 on a report of a vehicle being driven erratically by an operator who appears to be falling asleep at the wheel. Patrols checked the roadway but could not locate the vehicle.

 

Narrative: A caller from a restaurant on North Riverside Avenue reports that a female came in the restaurant, ordered 9 entrees and 2 glasses of wine, despite being alone, and then fell asleep at the table. The woman was told by restaurant staff that she could not sleep at the table. Patrols responded and located the female in a different restaurant on North Riverside Avenue. Patrols then stood by while the female got picked up by a taxi.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to the CET School for an activated alarm. Patrols checked the building and all appeared ok.

 

Narrative: A caller reported that a residence in the area of Terrace Place had an open front door and nobody appeared to be home. Patrols responded and report that only the storm door is open and the front door is actually locked.

 

Narrative: Patrol responded to a residence in the area of Mount Airy Road to serve an order of protection issued by Westchester County Family Court.

 

Narrative: A caller reported that his power is still out from the storm that occurred several days ago. Caller concerned as he has a child that requires refrigerated medication. Caller wanted incident on record in case he has to go purchase a generator because Con Edison still hasn’t turned the power back on. Caller advises that he will follow up with his electrician as well as Con Edison again this morning to get the power back on.

 

Narrative: Patrol responded to a residence on Melrose Avenue for a female having a medical issue. Croton EMS also responded and transported the female to the hospital.

 

Narrative: Caller reports a crew is out cutting the grass before 8 am. Patrols responded and located landscapers. Patrols advised the landscapers and corrected the condition.

 

Narrative: Caller reports seeing more than usual smoke coming out of the dryer vent of a nearby residence. Patrol dispatched to search for residence. Caller then called back saying that the smoke or steam has now stopped and nothing appears wrong.

 

Narrative: A caller reported a large group of people walking their dogs unleashed on the Silver Lake Trail. Patrols responded and located a large group of people with dogs that were all leashed.

 

Narrative: A caller from East Mount Airy Road in the Town of Cortlandt called to report receiving a suspicious letter in the mail. The caller was advised to follow up with the New York State Police as well as the Croton Postmaster.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to the parking lot of the Municipal Building where a domestic dispute was occurring between a male and a female.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to the parking lot of the Shoprite Supermarket on a report of a male running and yelling in that lot. Patrols report speaking with an employee of Shoprite who was talking loudly on his phone.

 

Narrative: Con Edison called to advise the roadway was shut down again on Grand Street for a transformer repair.

 

Narrative: Patrol responded to the area of Mount Airy Road for a motor vehicle accident. A truck struck the mirror of a vehicle driving in the opposite direction.

 

Narrative: Patrol responded to the area of Grand Street for a truck parked illegally. Patrol located a dump truck and issued the driver a verbal warning.

 

Narrative: A resident of Springvale Road in the Town of Cortlandt called to request an ambulance. Desk officer transferred the caller to an ambulance dispatch.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to Route 9 on a report of packages in the roadway. Patrols checked the area but did not locate any packages.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to Brook Street on a report of low hanging cable wires. Patrols confirmed wires were low and the desk officer advised Optimum.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to the area of South Riverside Avenue and Maple Street for a one-car motor vehicle accident.

 

Narrative: A certified installer of child safety seats, installed a car seat for a civilian in the parking lot of the Municipal Building.

 

Narrative: A caller reported having a custody issue with his daughter and ex-wife in the area of Truesdale Drive. Patrols responded to the scene, but while they were in route, the caller requested we cancel as he will instead need to follow up with Family Court.

 

Narrative: Patrol responded to a residence on Olcott Avenue for a female having a medical issue. Croton EMS also responded and transported the female to the hospital.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to the area of Truesdale Drive on a report of a large open burn with a lot of smoke. Patrols checked the area but could not locate any smoke or burning.

 

Narrative: A resident of Montrose turned himself into the Police department on an active bench warrant.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to the CET School for an alarm activation. Patrol checked the school and reported securing a door.

 

Narrative: Patrol reports conducting a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Maple Street. Patrol reports vehicle’s license plates come back to a different vehicle. Patrol issued the operator multiple summonses and the vehicle was towed.

 

Narrative: Patrol responded to a residence in the area of Prospect Place for a person choking. Croton EMS also responded and transported the female to the hospital.

 

Narrative: Patrol reports locating a loose dog in the area of Grand Street near Carter’s Funeral Home with tags.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to the comfort station at the Croton Landing on an alarm activation. Patrol checked the building and all appeared ok.

 

Narrative: A caller reported that he is at his house in the area of Bank Street and there are people in his house that he wants to leave. Patrol initially responded. Desk officer then determined that the caller may be a patient of a hospital and not at his residence. A local nursing home was contacted and it was confirmed that the caller is a resident of the nursing home and not at his residence near Bank Street.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to a business on Arrowcrest Drive on an activated fire alarm. Croton FD also responded. It was determined that there was no fire at the location and the alarm was triggered by burning food.

 

Narrative: Patrol reports conducting a traffic stop on Route 9. After further investigation, a resident of Peekskill was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended Registration.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to the Croton Landing to assist a caller with lifting her large dog into a vehicle as the dog was having a medical emergency and could not walk.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to the area of Grand Street on a report of a male smoking a marijuana cigarette who appears out of it. Patrols spoke with the individual who was not having any issues.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to the area of Lounsbury Road on a report of a man standing and yelling at vehicles passing. Patrols checked the area but the man was no longer there.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to a residence in the area of Old Post Road North on a report by the homeowner that he just observed a bobcat in his backyard. Patrols checked the area but did not locate the animal.

 

Narrative: A caller reported that there were people fishing in Senasqua Park and blocking people from walking with their chairs. Patrols responded to the park but could not locate anyone fishing or blocking the walkway.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to the area of Albany Post Road on a report of fireworks in the area. Patrol checked the area but did not hear any noise.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to the comfort station at the Croton Landing for an alarm activation. Patrols checked the building and all appeared ok.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to a residence in the area of Sunset Drive for a medical alert activation. Patrols were able to locate the resident who needed assistance getting up.

 

Narrative: Patrol reports a vehicle alarm was activated at a business on North Riverside Avenue. Patrols checked the vehicle which appeared secure.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to a residence in the area of Briggs Lane for a female having a medical issue. Croton EMS also responded and transported the female to the hospital.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to the area of High Street on a report of vehicle parked blocking the sidewalk. Patrols located the owner of the vehicle and advised him to move the car.

 

Narrative: Patrol reports conducting a traffic stop on Route 9. After investigation, a resident of White Plains was arrested for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and Operating a Vehicle with a Suspended Registration as well as other Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.

 

Narrative: A caller stated that while she was with her son walking her three dogs in the area of Devon Avenue another dog jumped from the rear of a black pickup truck scaring her and her son. Patrols responded to the scene and were able to locate the owner of the dog. The owner of the dog and the caller were able to exchange information.

 

Narrative: An employee of a business on South Riverside Avenue called to report observing someone just dump garbage into their private dumpster. A description of the vehicle was given. Patrols responded and searched the area but the vehicle was already gone.

 

Narrative: A caller reported that while her vehicle was parked at a business on South Riverside Avenue it was struck by another vehicle. Caller had already left the area but wanted to have the incident on record.

 

Narrative: Patrols responded to the area of the upper village on a report that businesses in the area were selling products on the street. Patrols did confirm that several businesses did have tents set up and were serving patrons outside of the establishments. Patrols to follow up with the Village Office.

 

Narrative: A caller of a business on South Riverside Avenue reports that a male had stolen beer from the business earlier in the morning and was now back inside the establishment. Patrols responded. Patrols interviewed the store staff as well as the individual. An investigation is being conducted.

 

Narrative: A caller reported losing his wallet somewhere in the Village.

 

Narrative: A caller reported an erratic driver on Route 9 North by the Montrose exit. Vehicle was already out of the Village.

 

Narrative: A caller reports that she just observed a drone flying motionless outside of her window. When she approached the window, the drone immediately flew away. Drone is now gone, and it is unknown which direction it went.
