Video Surveillance Camera Registration

You Can Help Keep Croton-on-Hudson a Safe Community

The Village of Croton on Hudson Police Department is asking for assistance from our residents who have surveillance cameras and Ring type doorbells.  The Police would like you to register the existence of your device to assist with missing person and criminal cases.  All information collected about your system will remain confidential and will only be used if needed. Police personnel, if necessary, may ask your permission to view your camera footage in order to assist in an investigation.   After registration, you always retain your right to refuse to share your video or cooperate with an investigation, and you may request that your registration information be purged at any time.

Officers often canvass a neighborhood after a crime, or during a missing persons case, speak with neighbors, and ask about potential videos, but having prior knowledge of a video system would be especially helpful for police investigations where time is of the essence.  Such knowledge of a video system could also be helpful in tracking the movements of a suspect or missing child who may have moved through your area but be involved in an incident several blocks from your home.  Your home might not be a part of the normal canvas, but your video might prove invaluable. Phone or email contact by the Police would generally not occur outside of reasonable hours.

The Police Department is grateful for your assistance in helping to keep our Village and our residents safe.  To register your system, please follow the Surveillance Camera Registration link under the Police Department tab on the Village website. If you have any questions regarding registering your surveillance camera, please contact the police department at 914-271-5177.

Surveillance Camera Registration

You Can Help Keep Croton-on-Hudson a Safe Community

The Croton-on-Hudson Police Department is committed to utilizing every resource to prevent and solve crimes and to protect citizens and their property.  Many residents and businesses are now utilizing surveillance cameras and these cameras may capture persons and events without the owner’s knowledge and this captured information may help the police department solve crimes and help keep the village safe.

The Croton-on-Hudson Police Department is asking residents and businesses to voluntarily register their privately-owned surveillance camera systems.  As our officers respond to reports of criminal activity in our community, they may be able to use the information or footage captured on these security cameras to assist in the apprehension and prosecution of the criminals involved.

What are the benefits of registering your camera?

By registering with the Croton-on-Hudson Police Department, officers can quickly identify nearby cameras that may have captured criminal activity. After registering your camera, you would only be contacted by the police department if there is a criminal incident in the vicinity of your security camera. Attempts to contact the registrant via phone and/or email will be done during reasonable hours of the day.

Information provided to the Croton-on-Hudson Police Department regarding your camera system will be for official use only.
