CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Village of Croton-on-Hudson Police Department is issuing a public advisory in response to a recent spike in in thefts from unlocked vehicles within the community. Overnight, the department has received more than 18 reports of theft incidents involving unlocked vehicles.

In light of these reports, the Village of Croton-on-Hudson Police Department urges residents to remain vigilant and take the following proactive measures to safeguard their vehicles and belongings:

  1. Lock Your Vehicle: Always ensure that your car is securely locked, even when parked in your driveway or in seemingly safe areas. All of the targeted vehicles were left unlocked.
  2. Remove Valuables: Take the time to remove any valuables or personal belongings from your vehicle, especially when leaving it unattended. Items such as wallets, electronic devices, and keys left in plain sight can entice thieves and heighten the risk of a break-in.
  3. Park in Well-Lit Areas: Whenever possible, park your vehicle in well-lit and populated areas. Avoid parking in dimly lit or secluded locations, as they provide cover for criminals to carry out illegal activities undetected.
  4. Report Suspicious Activity: If you notice any individuals loitering around parked vehicles or exhibiting suspicious behavior, do not hesitate to contact the Police Department at (914) 271-5177. In case of emergencies, dial 911.
