Severe Cold Weather Advisory

A dangerously cold air mass is expected to settle over our region Friday and Saturday. Wind chills may fall to as low as 25° below zero. A wind chill advisory will be in effect for Southeast New York including Northern Westchester County, beginning Friday February 3rd 5:00 PM through Saturday February 4th 9:00 AM. 
 
Tips to stay safe in the cold:
 
  • Monitor the local weather forecast for updates on conditions. 
  • Frostbite can occur on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes. The best way to avoid frostbite and hypothermia is to plan for extreme cold before it arrives. Read these tips to learn how to prepare for cold weather
  • Avoid being outdoors for long periods of time and dress in layers. Wear dry, warm clothing and cover exposed skin. 
  • Protect your pets, livestock and other property. Read these tips to avoid frozen pipes in your home
  • Update your Winter Car Survival Kit. Make sure your vehicle has at least a half tank of gas.
  • Always keep an eye on space heaters. Never leave children alone in the room where a space heater is running. Turn it off when you are unable to closely monitor it.
