Reminders for Dog Owners

As we enter the spring season, here are some friendly reminders of the regulations pertaining to dogs in the Village of Croton-on-Hudson:

Leash Law & Pet Waste Removal

It is a violation of the Village Code for dogs to be set loose in the Village without a leash. Village parks, fields, and school properties are off-limits to dogs, with the exception of Black Rock Dog Park and Croton Landing Park. Leashed dogs are permitted at Croton Landing Park during park hours, and may only be walked on the paved Riverwalk Trail on a maximum 6-foot leash. A dog park permit is required for entry to Black Rock Dog Park. Village law requires the “curbing” of dogs when not on one’s own property. Leashed dogs may be curbed in the part of the street lying between the two curb lines. All feces must be removed by the walker and deposited in an airtight container and placed in a refuse container - never in storm drains or sewers.

Licensing

Per New York State law, all dogs four months of age and older must be licensed in the municipality in which the dog’s owner resides. Complete this application and return it by mail, in person to the Village Clerk’s Office, or in the dropbox outside the Municipal Building at 1 Van Wyck St., Croton-on-Hudson, NY 10520, with the appropriate fee, required rabies vaccination certificate, and spay/neuter certificate, if applicable. If you apply by mail, the dog license and tag will be mailed to you. The dog tag is issued once and is maintained for the life of the dog.

Dog licenses are renewed annually. You will receive your annual renewal form by mail from the Village. Village residents may renew their dog license online, by mail, or in person at the Village Offices.

Black Rock Dog Park

Black Rock Dog Park is open to Village residents with a dog park permit. Residents must have a valid Recreation Photo ID Card and have their dog licensed by the Village in order to apply for a dog park permit, which can be completed online by clicking here. From April 1 to September 30, Black Rock Dog Park hours are 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM Monday-Friday and 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Saturday-Sunday.
