Reminder: July 4th Revolutionary History Re-enactment Showcase

This Independence Day, join local historian Duane Jackson on the grounds of the Van Cortlandt Manor for a Revolutionary History Re-enactment Showcase. Costumed presenters will portray soldiers in the 1st Rhode Island Regiment and 2nd New York Regiments, exploring local battles fought by a pioneering regiment of Black soldiers in the Revolutionary War. The presentation begins at 10 a.m. and will last approximately 2 hours.
 
The Showcase will feature:
 
  • The origin and history of the First Rhode Island Regiment
  • The Battle of Rhone Island fought by First Rhode Island Regiment
  • The Battle of Pine Bridge fought in Yorktown Heights, NY by the First Rhode Island Regiment
  • An overview of the Continental Army
  • The history of the 2nd New York Regiment
  • Description of what the soldiers wore, how they lived and fought
  • Demonstration of the firing of a musket
  • Questions & Answers
