Message from the Croton Police Department - Schools Open September 1st - Drive Carefully

With the opening of the 2021-2022 school year this Wednesday, September 1st, 2021, the Croton Police Department would like to remind everyone to be extra careful when driving on Village streets as students end their summer vacations and return to school.

Drivers should be extra cautious in school areas, remaining alert and keeping their speeds at or below posted speed limits, especially in school speed zones along Gerstein Street, Glen Place, Hughes Street, Larkin Place and Maple Street. Drivers should also be prepared to stop, on both sides of the street, for school buses with flashing red lights as required by New York State Vehicle and Traffic Laws. Drivers should be extra alert and cautious as there will also be students walking and riding their bicycles to and from school.

The Croton Police Department proudly supports the AAA Northeast’s “Schools Open-Drive Carefully” campaign and will be increasing the amount of patrols and traffic safety enforcement throughout the Village. Let’s all strive to stay alert, drive safe, and be careful as we navigate the Village streets.
