Residents Encouraged to Apply for Openings on Various Boards/Committees

The Village Board of Trustees is currently accepting applications for the boards and committees outlined below.  If you have an interest in joining any of the below boards or committees, please send a letter of interest and resume to Bryan Healy, Secretary to the Village Manager, at bhealy@crotononhudson-ny.gov. Over the next few weeks and months, the Mayor will be reviewing the applications received and will be in contact with those selected for an open position.

Advisory Board on the Visual Environment

The Advisory Board on the Visual Environment acts in an advisory capacity to the Board of Trustees, Planning Board, the Board of Appeals and the Village Engineer for all projects and proposals under consideration by these bodies, in order to review those aspects of such projects and proposals which affect the visual environment of the village. The board meets on an as-needed basis.

Bicycle Pedestrian Committee

The Bicycle-Pedestrian Committee works to maintain and improve the quality of life and safety of those who walk, ride bicycles and rely on non‐motorized means of travel in the Village. The committee meets once per month.

Business Development Committee

This committee will work on ways to foster economic development through zoning changes and other initiatives.  This committee meets on an as-needed basis.

Conservation Advisory Council

This council was formed to advise the Board of Trustees on matters affecting the preservation and use of the natural and man-made features and conditions of the village.  It is empowered to develop and conduct programs of public information in the community which shall be designed to foster increased understanding of the nature of environmental problems and issues and support for their solutions.  The council meets once per month.

Diversity and Inclusion Committee

The Diversity and Inclusion Committee was created by the Board of Trustees on November 5, 2018. The committee was created to develop and implement programs designed to create a spirit of diversity and inclusion for all that live, work in, and visit the Village of Croton-on-Hudson. The committee meets on an as-needed basis.

Planning Board

The Planning Board's responsibility is to review proposals affecting land use in the Village. The Board processes all applications for subdivisions, site plans, minor site plans and change of use. The Planning Board also advises the Village Board and makes recommendations to them on the granting of special permits, zoning changes, and improvements or new construction of Village-owned projects. The board meets twice a month.

Recreation Advisory Committee

The Recreation Advisory Committee serves in an advisory capacity to the Recreation Department and the Village Board.  The committee acts as a liaison between the community and the Village Board on programs, area, facilities, public relations and other matters pertaining to recreation.  The committee meets once per month.

Sustainability Committee

The committee studies ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, advises the board on ways the Village can reduce energy demand for its operations and provides outreach to the community on the use of renewable energy.  This committee meets once per month.

Trails Committee

The Trails Committee inventories present open space that could potentially be part of a trail system, identifies existing, potential and connecting trails, trail linkages, and explores other trail concepts within a master plan and helps to preserve and improve some 13 miles of trails in our Village.  The committee meets once every other month.

Water Control Commission

The Water Control Commission is charged with protecting the public interest, general health, safety, and economic and general welfare of the citizens of the village by providing for the protection, preservation, proper maintenance and use of its wetlands, water bodies and watercourses by preventing damage from erosion or siltation, minimizing disturbance, preserving natural habitats and protecting against flood and pollution. The commission meets on an as-needed basis.

Zoning Board of Appeals

The Zoning Board of Appeals considers applications regarding the interpretation of the Zoning Code, for special permits, and for variances from the Zoning Code. The board meets once a month.
