Important Croton River Advisory

The Village has today been made aware of a substantial sewage spill consisting of approximately 57,000 total gallons of sewage. The spill was located at the Westchester County Department of Environmental Facilities Crotonville Pump station on the shore of the Croton River in the Town of Ossining.

Unfortunately, Westchester County did not notify the Village of the spill until today.  There would have been no impact to Silver Lake Beach as it is located upstream from the spill.

The river water in the vicinity of Mayo's Landing and the Echo Canoe Boat Launch were potentially impacted by the spill yesterday.

See below for what we received from the Westchester County Health Department today.

“There was a sewage discharge from Westchester County’s Crotonville Pump Station located in the Town of Ossining from 12:45pm-3:55pm yesterday. The discharge was estimated at approximately 300 gallons per minute. The discharge was to the Croton River which discharges to the Hudson River. At this time, no impact on the Croton River is expected from yesterday’s discharge.”
