Hydrant Flushing Program – Spring 2023

Hydrant Flushing

The Village of Croton-on-Hudson Water Department will begin the semi-annual hydrant-flushing program on April 17, 2023. This procedure is necessary to maintain the high quality of the water system and is mandated by the New York State Department of Health. Flushing will be performed Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 AM and 9:30 PM. The flushing program is expected to take four weeks to complete. The Water Department will begin the flushing program at the Village well field on Route 129. From there, they will continue flushing hydrants working towards the end of the Village water system in the vicinity of the Croton/Harmon Train Station. Updates on which streets will have their hydrants flushed will be posted when possible on the Village's Water Department webpage, Facebook and Twitter accounts.

As the hydrant flushing program nears your neighborhood, you may notice a slight discoloration of your water. This is temporary and poses no health risk. Simply run your water for a short period of time until it clears up. Do not do any laundry until you are sure your water is clear. If the discoloration persists, contact the Croton-on-Hudson DPW at 914-271-3775.

We apologize for any inconvenience this hydrant flushing program may cause. This procedure is necessary to insure the continued cleanliness of the water system and is mandated by the New York State Department of Health. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding during this important operation.
