Honoring Our Veterans

veterans day

On behalf of the Village administration and staff, we want to thank all veterans who have served our country and wish all a Happy Veterans Day. All residents are invited to join American Legion Fox-Eklof Post 505 in honoring Croton’s veterans on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Veterans Corners Monument. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the Holy Name of Mary Church Gymnasium, 120 Grand Street, Croton on Hudson.

The Croton Yacht Club invites all village veterans and spouses, surviving spouses of veterans, active military and their spouses for a free luncheon on Friday, November 10th at noon. To offset the luncheon expenses, it is suggested that all non-military attendees donate $15 per adult and $5 per teen over 16, children are free. Any net proceeds realized from the luncheon will be donated to the American Legion Fox-Eklof Post 505. Residents who would like to attend this event should contact Dennis Kooney, by email at dennis@kooney.net or by phone at 914-271-6384.

The Village of Croton-on-Hudson is proud to honor our local veterans, active-duty service members, and their families. The Hometown Hero banners from the 2023 Veterans Banner Program will be on display throughout the Village for the remainder of the week. A list of names and locations can be accessed here. Once the banners are removed for the season, they will be stored by the Village and then displayed from Memorial Day to Veterans Day of 2024. The Village will accept applications for the 2024 Veterans Banner Program starting next month. If you have any questions regarding the Veterans Banner Program, please call the Village Office at 914-271-2895.

Remembering Our Croton Veterans, a 2013 book published by Croton-Harmon High School sophomore and Girl Scout Troop 1244 member Erin Livingston, details the lives of twenty-six fallen veterans from Croton-on-Hudson who served in WWI, WWII, The Korean War, or the Vietnam War. Their names are memorialized as streets and on monuments throughout the Village. The book is available in its entirety on the Village website, and can be accessed here
