Halloween Safety Tips

The Village of Croton-on-Hudson Police Department would like to remind drivers to be alert and watch carefully for Trick-or-Treaters this week. Please watch your speed and be on the lookout for children crossing the road. As a reminder, earlier this year, the speed limit on most Village roadways has been lowered from 30 to 25 MPH.

Here are some Halloween Safety Tips to ensure a fun and secure Halloween for everyone:

  • Cross the street at corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks. Look left, right and left again when crossing and keep looking as you cross.
  • Put electronic devices down, keep heads up and walk, don’t run, across the street.
  • Carry a flashlight or glow sticks to light up the night. Stay seen and safe!
  • Young ones should always have adult supervision.  If kids are mature enough to be out without supervision, tell them to stick to familiar areas that are well lit and trick-or-treat in groups.
  • Costume Safety: Ensure costumes fit well, and masks allow clear vision. Avoid tripping hazards.
  • Stay Hydrated: Bring water bottles to keep hydrated while out and about.

Have a safe and fun Halloween!
