Peter Calo has been Carly Simon’s guitar player and backing vocalist for the last 20-plus years. During his long relationship with Carly Simon, Peter served as her musical director, occasional producer and even song collaborator. Peter has performed with James Taylor, as well. Anne Carpenter, a bright star on the Westchester music scene, has had her original songs recorded by such artists as Sloan Wainwright. Objects and Memory with Jonathan Fein
Wednesday, October 3 – 7:30 PM

What are the things in our homes and museums that mean the most to us? How do we preserve the past and speak to the future? What would you save if your house were on fire? Producer/director Jonathan Fein presents a lecture based on his acclaimed PBS documentary film Objects and Memory. Illustrating his lecture with video, Jonathan explores how otherwise ordinary things become transformed into precious conveyors of experience, emotion, and identity. “Objects and Memory” is jointly presented by the Croton Council on the Arts, the Croton Free Library, and the Croton Friends of History.

The History of Croton Point – Presented by Croton Friends of History
Thursday, October 4 – 7 to 9 PM
Croton Free Library

If you explore Croton Point today you’ll see the “oyster middens” on the northern tip, refuse from the Native Americans who once had a stockaded settlement where the model airplane field is today. You’ll see thousands of discarded bricks along the shoreline and on the south side the boarded-up entrances to vaulted wine cellars. It’s hard to imagine that a major brickmaking operation transformed the landscape of Croton Point or that it was once the location of the first commercial vineyard in New York State. Marc Cheshire and Carl Oechsner will tell the fascinating story of Croton Point—from the time of the first Native American settlements (dating back 7,000 years) to capping the Westchester County garbage dump. We’ll learn the whispered tales of witches who once guarded Captain Kidd’s buried treasure, how the cannons fired at the British ship Vulture led to the capture of Major John André and the extensive plans by the county to transform Croton Point into Playland West.
