Mah Jongg for Beginners

Learn the fun and mentally stimulating game of mah jongg at the Croton Free Library! Sign up for this four-week lesson series for beginners. It's easiest to learn if you can make every session -- every Thursdays, 10am-11am, from Oct. 27 to Nov. 17. Please wear a mask. Registration is required & space is limited! Train the Tutors

Learn to help kids with their schoolwork as a volunteer opportunity or a paid job! Experienced teacher Adam Decker will discuss effective ways to help K-8 students and connect with them one-on-one. This program qualifies high-school students to volunteer in the Library's Homework Help tutoring program. This free workshop will take place in the Library's Creative Space. Halloween Goblin Walk
Saturday, October 29th at 12:00 Noon
Parade starts at the Municipal Building and ends in Vassallo Park
 
All goblins, creatures and spirits will meet at the Municipal Building at 12 noon and parade to Vassallo Park. Some tricks and treats will be waiting for everyone at the park. All welcome - don’t miss this fun filled family friendly event! Please, no dogs in parade!

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.
 
Haunted Hollow History Hike

Croton Point Nature & History Hike Croton Point Park Naturalist John Phillips and Village of Croton Historian Marc Cheshire will lead a hike on Saturday, October 29, at 9 a.m. to explore Croton Point’s history, natural history, archaeology and geology. This is a special Haunted Hollow hike for Halloween. The hike will last roughly 1.5 to 2 hours. This event is free. Meet at the gate to the RV park, where parking is available. Ages 6 and up; wear sturdy shoes. Additional hikes will take place at the same time and meeting place on November 19, December 3 and December 10.
 
Viva Brazil in Concert!

Join the Library for Viva Brasil in concert! Celebrate 200 years of Brazilian independence with internationally acclaimed musician Richard Boukas. In this solo performance, Richard — a guitarist, vocalist, composer and exponent of Brazilian music — will perform contemporary samba, bossa nova, choro, baião and other primary genres. The concert will feature compositions by legendary artist-composers including A.C. Jobim, Milton Nascimento, Luiz Gonzaga, Hermeto Pascoal, and a special tribute to Pixinguinha in honor of his 125th birthday. Free and open to all! No tickets required. Masks are required for this program. Bring your own or the Library will provide one.
 
Lost & Found: Cartoonist Jim Stevenson

Jim Stevenson was one of the New Yorker's most prolific cartoonists, an award-winning children's book illustrator, a talented author of many of his own books — and a longtime resident of Croton-on-Hudson. Join us at the Library for a screening of "Stevenson: Lost and Found," a recent documentary about his life and work. Marc Cheshire, Croton's Village Historian, will give an introduction about Stevenson's time in Croton. Free and open to all! No registration required.
 
 "Look Away, Look Away" Documentary Series

Please join the Croton Diversity and Inclusion Committee and the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Hudson Valley for an in-person screening of the powerful documentary "Look Away, Look Away" on Friday, November 4 at 6 PM at the UUCHV Fellowship Hall (2021 Albany Post Road, Croton-on-Hudson). The screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Patrick O'Connor. This is a free event and refreshments will be served. Due to mature subject matter, it is recommended for ages 15 and up. Election Day

A General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 8th, 2022 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Westchester County registered voters are eligible to cast an early voting ballot. The Early Voting period for the November 8, 2022 General Election will be from Saturday, Oct. 29th, 2022 through Sunday, Nov. 6th, 2022.  Please note that Early Voting locations and times differ from Election Day. Visit citizenparticipation.westchestergov.com or call the Board of Elections at 914-995-5700 for poll site locations and hours. For additional voting information, visit Vote411.org, an interactive website created and maintained by the League of Women Voters. The site supplies personalized ballots and polling locations simply by entering your home address.
