Croton Cub Scout Pack 28 Veterans Day Observance: "Dear Veteran" Activity
Croton Cub Scouts Pack 28 will honor local veterans by participating in the annual “Dear Veteran” activity. After a family conversation about what it means to be a veteran and talking about veterans in our community, Scouts will decorate one side of an index card in a patriotic theme and the words "Dear Veteran." On the other side Scouts will write a message of thanks. The Scouts invite all residents to create a card and show your support. Index cards should be laminated or placed in a clear plastic bag and tied to a tree with ribbon near your home, where passing Veterans can see it. Trees should be on your property or you should obtain permission. The messages will be placed before Veterans Day, Friday, November 11th and removed after Thanksgiving. The more messages our local Veterans see as they walk and drive around town, the more appreciation they will feel. More about Croton Cub Scout Pack 28 is available at https://www.crotoncubs.org/aboutus.
All residents are invited to join American Legion Fox-Eklof Post 505 in honoring Croton’s veterans on Friday, November 11th. The ceremony will be held at 11 AM at the Croton Veterans’ Monument at Veterans Corners (intersection of Cleveland Dr. and Old Post Rd. S.). In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the gymnasium at Holy Name of Mary Church.
The members of the Croton Yacht Club will celebrate Veterans Day at their 6 Elliott Way clubhouse with the annual Veterans Day Luncheon. The event will commence at noon and include a brief ceremony followed by a luncheon, which will be free of charge for all village veterans and spouses, surviving spouses of veterans, active military and spouses. To offset the luncheon expenses, it is suggested that all non-military attendees make a donation. Any net proceeds from the luncheon will be donated to benefit local veterans. For questions, or to RSVP, contact Dennis Kooney at dennis@kooney.net or by phone at 914-271-6384.
