Tween/Teen Cupcake Decorating

Spring has sprung! Decorate cupcakes with seasonal themes at the library – with Susan O’Keefe of Croton’s own “Baked by Susan” shop. Have fun while learning sweet techniques and decorative tricks in this tasty, hands-on workshop. The results are sure to be pretty, and, of course, delicious! Seats limited. Registration required. New York City’s Water System – Presented by Croton Friends of History

Thursday, May 2 – 7 to 9 PM

Adam Bosch, director of public affairs for the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), will discuss how the DEP operates, maintains and protects the largest municipal water supply in the United States. The talk will also include a special look at the $1 billion Delaware Aqueduct Bypass Tunnel project, the largest repair in the 176-year history of the City's water supply. The water supply is considered a marvel of modern engineering. Its system of reservoirs and aqueducts supplies 1 billion gallons of water each day to 8.6 million people in New York City and another 1 million people in the counties of Westchester, Putnam, Orange and Ulster. The programs that protect its reservoirs in the Catskills are considered a worldwide model for protecting the quality of water at its source.

Flute and Piano Duo, Rama Kumaran and Jack Coen

Rama Kumaran and Jack Coen present an evening of flute and piano music, entitled “Ways of the Heart.” Flutist Rama Kumaran, a recent graduate of Vanderbilt University, won the National Flute Association’s Young Artist Competition in 2015 (becoming its youngest-ever winner) and appeared on the NPR radio program “From the Top.” A classical pianist and organist, Jack Coen is the director of music at Church of the Epiphany in New York City. As a composer, Jack received the 2018 Harrington award for Outstanding Creative Achievement in Musical Theatre Writing. The duo brings an engaging evening of classical music – including composers as various as Fauré, Beeftink, Takemitsu and more – to Jack’s hometown library.

I Love My Park Day

Old Croton Aqueduct

Volunteer are invited to celebrate New York State’s I Love My Park Day on May 4 with the Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct by learning to identify invasive plant species, lop, pull and dig them up, plant native species, restore historic stone walls and join neighbors in other improvement projects on the trail in Croton. Electric Vehicle Showcase

Holy Name of Mary Parking Lot

Hosted by the Care for Creation Ministry. Speakers within Parish Center will present information on Electric Vehicles, chargers, car types, tax incentives at both 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Local electric car owners will show off their vehicles from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Event being held adjacent to the Earth Day Celebration.

Acoustic Showcase – Hosted by Peter Calo

Unplug and take center-stage – blues, folk and acoustic rock welcome. Songwriter and award-winning guitarist Peter Calo hosts the evening and offers a tune or two himself. Peter has released several CDs of his original songs and was a senior band-member for Carly Simon, Jimmy Webb, Linda Eder and Sophie B. Hawkins for many years. This year, the Acoustic Showcase pays special tribute to Pete Seeger, whose 100th birthday is just the day before. Hear your friends, family and neighbors perform, including Brian Aspinwall, George Attisano, Jennifer Dreaper, Marc Ferris, Flubber Brothers (Chris Belden, Robert Drescher, Kevin McCarthy), Tony Gordon, Claire Hilbert, Susan Kane, Steve Kirkman, Vic Messick, Karen Palmieri, and Caroline Staples. Taghkanic Chorale Presents “Carmina Burana”

The compelling and dramatic Carmina Burana which cemented Carl Orff's place among the most famous 20th century composers will feature two pianos and a full array of percussion. It will be preceded by three works from equally important composers of the last one hundred years: Norman Delio Joio A Jubilant Song, Samuel Barber Reincarnations, Op. 7 6, Charles lves Psalm 90. General admission tickets are $25, seniors are $22, students are $12 and children under 12 (with an adult) are free. Care for Creation Speaker Series

Fr. Jack Rathschmidt, OFM Cap., will speak to all peoples about the "Care for our Common Home" encyclical from Pope Francis in 2015 which asks all people to re-imagine our relationship with the earth. This is a chance for all faith groups to understand the underpinning of the Care for Creation group and its environmental endeavors. Fr. Jack is a captivating and exciting speaker.

Retirement Income Planning - Solving the Retirement Income Puzzle

Paul Petrone, a local CFP, CPA, will present a discussion that is especially relevant to those who are in the “red danger zone,” five years before and after retirement. Paul assists attendees in asking the hard questions: How do I replace my paycheck; how long does my money have to last; how much can I withdraw and not run out of money?

Second Saturday Bird Walk

Earring Design with Joan Lloyd

Express your creative side with artist Joan Lloyd, as she teaches you how to design and bead your very own earrings in this two-hour workshop. Choose from a vast variety of colorful beads to make one-of-a-kind earrings for yourself or a special someone. You’ll also have an opportunity to donate an additional pair of earrings of your own design to a local women’s shelter. Registration required.
