Restoring Croton Point Landfill Grasslands

Thursday, May 23 – 7 to 8:30 PM

The Saw Mill River Audubon Society presents this program with Larry Weaner Landscape Associates, which is the designer of the restoration plan for the Croton Point Park landfill grasslands. It is a plan designed to increase native plants and improve bird habitat on the landfill while reducing the number of invasive plant species. Come hear Larry Weaner and Jenna Webster describe how the restoration plan was developed and the timeline for this exciting and innovative project. Co-sponsored by Croton Conservation Advisory Council.

 

Croton Reservoir & Dam Hike

Sunday, May 26 – 10 AM

Croton Gorge Park

Easy 2-mile (total) hike north along the Aqueduct and atop the beautiful Croton Dam.  Meet near the restrooms at the parking lot at Croton Gorge Park, Rte. 129, Cortlandt, NY 10567. (Note: parking fee of $10 May – Sept.) The leader of the hike will discuss the history and construction of the Old Croton Aqueduct and the features of the Croton Dam, the trailhead of the Aqueduct Trail.  The Aqueduct was completed in 1842 to supply water to a thirsty New York City. Memorial Day Ceremony

Join the Village and Fox-Eklof American Legion Post 505 to remember those who served and made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and freedom. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place in the gym of Holy Name of Mary Church.

 

Arboretum Spring Walk

A spring walk in the woods with internationally-known author, naturalist, and guide Ed Kranze. Come discover the fabulous flora and fauna found in the Arboretum at this time of year with a guide who will help you discover where to look.

 

Shared Stories Open Minds

Saturday, June 1 – Noon to 1:15 PM

Croton Free Library

Kick off pride month and join students from the Croton Harmon High School for Shared Stories Open Minds. GLSEN (The Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network) of Hudson Valley is collaborating with the Croton Free Library and students from the Croton Harmon High School to offer a free diversity program. High school students will read and discuss age-appropriate books containing themes of gender roles, sexual orientation, diversity and acceptance to younger students and their families. For grades K-4, the read-aloud selection is And Tango Makes Three by Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell, and for grades 5-8 the read aloud selection is I Am Jazz by Jessica Herthel and Jazz Jennings. There will be related craft projects and snacks. Registration required; sign up in person or by phone (914-271-6612) during open library hours.

 

Croton Summerfest

Sunday, June 2 – 12:45 to 6 PM

Upper Village

Join your friends and neighbors at the 33rd Annual Summerfest! The Upper Village will play host to over 100 vendors and community groups, along with three band performances and food trucks. The festivities kick off at 12:45 PM with a parade down Old Post Road South to Grand Street. This is a great community event not to miss!

 

An Introduction to Crystal Meditation and Reiki

According to presenter Amy Luke, including crystals in your meditation practice brings a dimension of inner exploration, clears negativity, raises consciousness, and deepens intuition and insight. And when a bit of Reiki energy is added, this yoga and meditation practitioner finds that emotional and physical stress release, and areas of imbalance wash away. Curious about energy healing and meditation? Join local resident Amy Luke, for this inward journey into connection and alignment with the vibrant health.
