Croton Academy of Arts Presents “Seussical Jr!”

Thursday, May 16 – 7 PM

Croton Academy of Arts

Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and other favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life when 22 local children and teens perform Seussical JR. on Thursday, May 16th and Friday, May 17th at 7 pm, and Sunday, May 19th, at 3 pm (note: there is no Saturday performance). This fantastical musical extravaganza is by Tony winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. Directed by Natalie Arneson and choreographed by Janice Paganelli. Tickets are available at www.crotonacademy.org or at the door: $15 for adults, $12 for students/children.

 

Spring Book & Bake Sale

Early bird admission: $10 to shop 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 18. Free and open to the public for browsing and buying: 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Saturday, May 18, and Sunday, May 19.

 

Intro to TinkerCad

Saturday, May 18 – 1 to 2 PM

Croton Free Library

Library 3D experts will show how to create simple 3D objects using the web-based free software application (TinkerCad). Use basic shapes to put together a design and they’ll show you some of the things you can do with them. Registration Required. Sign up in person or call (914-271-6612) during library hours. For ages 6-18.

 

Croton Yacht Club Scholarship Fundraiser

Saturday, May 18 – 7 to 10 PM

Croton Yacht Club

The Croton Yacht Club will hold its annual college scholarship fundraiser on Saturday, May 18 from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM at their clubhouse located at 6 Elliott Way in Croton-on-Hudson. The event will include an all you can eat pasta night, with various pasta dishes, salad, coffee and dessert. A silent auction will be conducted during the evening as well as a 50-50 fund raising raffle. A donation of $20 for adults, $10 for teens is requested; children 12 and under are free. All net proceeds will go to the Croton Yacht Club College Scholarship Fund. If you would like to donate items for the silent auction or if you would like to donate to the scholarship fund directly, please contact Dennis Kooney at dennis@kooney.net or call 271-6384.

 

Native Americans of New York City

Scott Kostiw is the author of “Archaeology of New York City” (Paleo Indian to contact) and numerous papers about prehistoric ceramics and lithics of the Northeast. Mr. Kostiw will discuss the original New Yorkers from twelve thousand years ago to the arrival of the Dutch in 1609. Presented by the L.A. Brennan, Lower Hudson Chapter of the NYS Archaeological Association.

 

Peter and the Wolf Concert

Narrated by Alex Dyer, this is a free concert of Peter & the Wolf in woodwind quintet. It is a wonderful opportunity to see and hear the flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and French horn up close.

 

Discovering the Harpsichord Lecture

Restoring Croton Point Landfill Grasslands

Thursday, May 23 – 7 to 8:30 PM

The Saw Mill River Audubon Society presents this program with Larry Weaner Landscape Associates, which is the designer of the restoration plan for the Croton Point Park landfill grasslands. It is a plan designed to increase native plants and improve bird habitat on the landfill while reducing the number of invasive plant species. Come hear Larry Weaner and Jenna Webster describe how the restoration plan was developed and the timeline for this exciting and innovative project. Co-sponsored by Croton Conservation Advisory Council.

 

Croton Reservoir & Dam Hike

Sunday, May 26 – 10 AM

Croton Gorge Park

Easy 2-mile (total) hike north along the Aqueduct and atop the beautiful Croton Dam.  Meet near the restrooms at the parking lot at Croton Gorge Park, Rte. 129, Cortlandt, NY 10567. (Note: parking fee of $10 May – Sept.) The leader of the hike will discuss the history and construction of the Old Croton Aqueduct and the features of the Croton Dam, the trailhead of the Aqueduct Trail.  The Aqueduct was completed in 1842 to supply water to a thirsty New York City. Memorial Day Ceremony

Veterans Corner

Join the Village and Fox-Eklof American Legion Post 505 to remember those who served and made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and freedom. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place in the gym of Holy Name of Mary Church.
