Book It: The Nontraditional World of Artists’ Books with Elinor Stecker-Orel

Wednesday, June 12 – 7:30 PM

Croton Free Library

Booklovers think of books as being a stack of pages bound together between covers. But artists’ books are different. They are innovative, unique, handmade books created with unusual bindings, distinctive shapes, and nontraditional materials. The pages may be thin as tissue paper, hard as wood, or clear as glass. Elinor’s presentation spotlights artists’ books made with such unorthodox objects as sneaker innersoles, teabags, dominoes, slices of fruit … books that delight the eye and intrigue the imagination. Elinor was formerly senior editor at Popular Photography magazine, and she has written hundreds of articles for various publications, including National Geographic Traveler, The New York Times, Time, U.S.A. Today and Woman’s Day.
