In a world inside a smartphone, an emoji named Gene is ashamed that he has multiple facial expressions while his colleagues only have one each. He then embarks on a quest to be like everyone else. Popcorn night! Part of the Recreation Department Summer Movie Series. Families are encouraged to bring a picnic, enjoy the sunset and stay for the movies. In case of rain, movies are shown on the next evening. All movies are rated G or PG.

Learn to Sew a Tote Bag

Join local artist, Mary McFerran to learn the basics of hand and machine sewing by creating a personalized tote bag over four classes. No experience necessary. For 12 and 13 year-olds. Limited availability.
 
Nicolls Road Concert

Second Saturday Bird Walk
Saturday, July 13 – 9 to 11 AM
Brinton Brook Sanctuary
 
Monthly walks will continue year-round on second Saturdays at Brinton Brook in Croton-on-Hudson. Good for ages 8 and up. No pre-registration necessary. For weather cancellations check the website at sawmillriveraudubon.org. Meet at main parking area off Route 9A.
 
Sciencetellers’ “Aliens—Escape from Earth”

Sciencetellers offers an adventure that’s out of this world. During a midnight meteor shower, something mysterious falls from the sky toward Earth — but it’s not a shooting star. Two curious kids venture into the forest to investigate and find themselves mixed up with a family of visitors from another planet. Pursued by a crazy space scientist, they must rescue the aliens and get them back to their spaceship — before it’s too late! The Sciencetellers’ family entertainment is part of “A Universe of Stories” summer reading fun at the library. The special effects for this action-packed story are provided by science experiments, with loads of audience participation. Ideal for grades K through 5.
 
Croton Reservoir & Dam Hike

Croton Gorge Park
 
Easy 2-mile (total) hike north along the Aqueduct and atop the beautiful Croton Dam.  Meet near the restrooms at the parking lot at Croton Gorge Park. (Note: parking fee of $10, May – Sept.)  The leader of the hike will discuss the history and construction of the Old Croton Aqueduct and the features of the Croton Dam, the trailhead of the Aqueduct Trail.

This Sustainable Sunday talk focuses on Ethical Investing. Christina Alfandary from Gabelli Funds will explain the basics of ESG Investing (Environmental, Social, and Governance). Sonia Ingram will speak about Responsible Dis-Investment of fossil fuel entities. FREE. Q&A afterward.
 
Sherlock Gnomes Movie

CCI Reusable Bag Giveaway
Sunday, July 21 – 10 AM to 1 PM
The Black Cow
 
To help make the transition away from plastic and paper easier, Croton Climate Initiative (CCI) volunteers will be distributing reusable bags on Sunday, July 21st, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at The Black Cow. The giveaway is planned in anticipation of the New York State law banning single use plastic bags, which goes into effect on March 1, 2020. Please come and take advantage of this free event!
 
Croton Arboretum Annual Garden Tour
Sunday, July 21 – 12:30 to 5 PM
 
The Croton Arboretum’s 23rd annual garden tour will be held on Sunday, July 21 from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. This ever-popular event will offer participants a private, self-guided tour of six beautiful gardens in the Croton area. Tickets are $20 each (or $35 for two, if purchased in advance). The tour is limited to 200 participants, so order your tickets today by calling (914) 487-3830.
