Croton Point Nature Center

Come ID and count birds at the bird feeders at Croton Point Nature Center with volunteers from Saw Mill River Audubon viewing the feeders from inside the Center. Beginners encouraged. Croton Reservoir & Dam Hike

Saturday, February 2 – 10 AM

Croton Gorge Park

Easy 2-mile hike north along the Aqueduct and atop the beautiful Croton Dam. Meet near the restrooms at the parking lot at Croton Gorge Park, Rte. 129, Cortlandt, NY 10567. The leader of the hike will discuss the history and construction of the Old Croton Aqueduct and the features of the Croton Dam, the trailhead of the Aqueduct Trail. Origami as a Therapy for Mind and Body with Yoshimi Arai

This origami workshop is a therapeutic exercise and a joyful meditation. Music during the class sets the mood and stimulates hearing, while the color of the paper stimulates vision. Folding origami improves dexterity and mental focus, while helping calm emotions. Join artist and educator Yoshimi Arai for this afternoon workshop, and engage your Zen mind. Winter Tree Walk

Sunday, February 3 – Noon to 2 PM

Jane E. Lytle Memorial Arboretum

Certified arborist Craig Stevens will lead us along the newly completed Tree Trail while answering most questions regarding tree care and winter damage. The walk will be held rain or shine and is free to the public. Park on Fox Road and meet there for Craig’s presentation before the hike.

 

Earring Design with Joan Lloyd

Monday, February 4 – 3 PM

Croton Free Library

Express your creative side with artist Joan Lloyd, as she teaches you how to design and bead your very own earrings in this two-hour workshop. Choose from a vast variety of colorful beads to make one-of-a-kind earrings for yourself or a special someone. You’ll also have an opportunity to donate an additional pair of earrings of your own design to a local women’s shelter. Registration required. EagleFest 2019

Saturday, February 9 – 9 AM to 4 PM

Croton Point Park

The bald eagle’s return to the Hudson Valley after being on the brink of extinction is one of the great conservation success stories of our time. Join Teatown at Croton Point Park as our region’s bald eagles descend upon the Hudson River as part of their winter migration. Celebrate the return of this magnificent bird with live bird-of-prey shows, educators with viewing scopes observing wild eagles, children’s activities, food trucks, and 25+ environmental organizations — all in heated tents! Snow date is February 10.

West African Drum Circle

Saturday, February 9 – 11 AM

Croton Free Library

People of all ages and experience are invited to gather at the Croton Free Library for a community drum circle. Learn to play basic rhythms collectively on traditional West African Djembe and Djun drums of various sizes. In order to ensure that each participant has access to a drum, the workshop is limited in size. Registration is required. Register by calling (914-271-6612) or visiting the library during open hours. Designed with children in mind, the workshop is, however, open to all ages.

 

Bennett Conservatory of Music Annual Benefit

Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Hudson Valley

Annual Benefit Concert & Dinner featuring Michael Goetz (bass), Albert Rivera (sax) and Doug Munro (guitar). $60 per ticket. All proceeds to benefit the Bennett Conservatory Scholarship Fund.

 

Collective Brass Presents “Beautiful, Bright and Fast”

Collective Brass performs classical music spanning the centuries. This delightful program offers classical favorites, beautiful melodies and breathtaking energy. The musicians of the quintet (all of whom are members of the West Point Band) – Carl Stanley and Bill Owens, trumpet; Drew Mangus, horn; Alaina Alster, trombone; Keith Kile, tuba – present music originally written for brass by Steven Sacco, as well as virtuosic organ and vocal music by Bach and Monteverdi arranged for brass quintet.

Berenice Tompkins reports on her just-completed Climate Pilgrimage, a 1,000-mile walk through 7 countries arriving at the Poland COP24 climate summit. Berenice will reflect on the walk & share inspiring stories of how climate change has changed the lives of her fellow pilgrims. The talk will include a screening of Tayo Tayo, a short film about the climate pilgrims made by Patrick Chadwick.
