Croton 125: An Oral History Film Screening

The Croton 125 Committee will present a film on February 8th at 6:30 pm at the Croton Library. The film celebrates Croton’s 125th Anniversary with storytelling from over 30 residents who have spent decades in our Village and watched it grow and thrive. Highlights from these oral histories will be featured in a one-hour film to be shown in the Library’s Ottinger Room on Thursday, February 8th at 6:30 pm. Refreshments will be served, and no tickets are required. Full oral histories will be posted on the Village website later in 2024.


Traditions of Chinese Acrobatics

Join us to celebrate the Lunar New Year with "Traditions of Chinese Acrobatics," a solo acrobatic performance by experienced performer Li Liu! Li performs hand balancing, plate spinning, ribbon dancing, diabolos and foot juggling. She also explains some of the rituals of Chinese New Year and teaches the audience some basic Chinese phrases. No registration required, but this program was very popular last year, so please come early! First come, first served.

Sights and Sounds of Africa, the Motherland

Sunday, February 11th, 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Join the Croton Free Library for Kofi and Sankofa Ensemble! They'll introduce the audience to the sights and sounds of Africa, focusing on West Africa.

Sankofa will perform seven rhythms that are regularly played and danced to in various festivals relating to harvest, the call to the ancestors, coming-of-age ceremonies, and more. There will be audience participation, plus a Q&A at the end of the performance!

Free and open to all. No registration required! First come, first served.


 

Croton Free Library Zoom Talk: Sacred Art of the Met

In this presentation, we will virtually travel over continents and across millennia, discussing sacred objects from five of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's curatorial departments: Egyptian Art, Greek and Roman Art, African Art, Islamic Art, and European Paintings. Led by author Patrick Bringley — whose memoir about working at the Met, All The Beauty in the World, is forthcoming from Simon & Schuster — this virtual journey through the Met and its startling and beautiful works of sacred art. Start Your Own Democracy Circle - Virtual Presentation

All are invited to join the Lorraine Hansberry Coalition of Croton and the Workers Circle for an online presentation on how to start a Democracy Circle. A Democracy Circle is a small group of people, who meet regularly to explore any number of issues facing our community and to demand the democracy we need. Anyone—from high school students to senior citizens—can start a circle. Representatives from the Workers Circle will show you how, and will provide guidance every step of the way. Merchant Marine Flag Ceremony

Veterans Corners (Intersection of Cleveland Drive and Old Post Road South)

American Legion Fox-Eklof Post 505 will host a Merchant Marine Flag Ceremony at Veterans Corners on February 12, 2024, at 11:00 AM to honor the service and sacrifice of the United States Merchant Marines, including Croton native Richard Pusatere, who served as the Chief Engineer of the SS El Faro, which was lost at sea on October 1, 2015 after encountering Hurricane Joaquin en route to San Juan. Following the ceremony, lunch and refreshments will be served at Post 505, located at 6 Terrace Place.

Babysitter Training with CPR (Ages 11-15)

Saturday, March 16th, Noon - 4:00 PM (Registration deadline February 23rd)
Stanley H. Kellerhouse Municipal Building Community Room
 
This course will prepare students with the training every parent wants in a babysitter! Topics covered include; safety, basic childcare, safe play, critical emergency action skills, CPR and first aid. The student will become certified in babysitting with CPR. Please bring a water bottle & lunch. $85.00 Village /$95.00 School Dist/Non-Residents. Register online.

Community Blood Drive

The New York Blood Center will be hosting a blood drive at the Croton Free Library, 171 Cleveland Drive, on Saturday, February 24th, 2024 from 10 AM to 4 PM. Appointments preferred, but walk-ins welcome if drive capacity permits. Vendor Applications Open for Earth Day Celebration

The Conservation Advisory Council will host their annual Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 27, 2024 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at Senasqua Park (Rain Date: May 4th). Croton Business Council Presents: “What’s for Dinner?” Wednesdays  

The Croton Business Council has partnered with participating hospitality retailers in the Village for “What's For Dinner?” Wednesdays in an effort to encourage residents to shop and eat local. Retailers offer to-go specials (in-dining and delivery not available) at a discount of 10-30% off menu  prices. Dinner specials will be listed on the CBC Croton Business Council Facebook page, as well as various Croton Community pages each week. In-dining and delivery not available for featured specials.
