Croton-on-Hudson 7th Annual Scarecrow Contest

Applications Now Open - Entries Due by October 2nd

The Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce will once again host the Annual Croton-on-Hudson Scarecrow Contest! Entries by individuals, families, teams, schools, churches, clubs, organizations & businesses are welcome! The goal of this contest is to create a gallery of fun, inventive scarecrows throughout the Village. Entries are due by Monday, October 2nd, and winners will be announced Thursday, October 19th. Bennett Conservatory Open House

The Bennett Conservatory of Music will hold an Open House on the Bennett Conservatory lawn on Monday, September 4th between 4:00 and 6:00 pm (rain-date Friday, September 8). This will be an opportunity to try out instruments and talk with teachers.
 

Senasqua Park Movie Night: Back to the Future (Rated PG)

Hudson River Day

The mission of Hudson River Day is to promote interest in the history and ecology of the river, to cultivate future local environmental leaders and to promote, enhance and protect river related recreational resources. Events and exhibits will include: a seining exhibition where local marine life will be captured, displayed and later released; viewing tanks where local marine life can be identified and observed; hands-on exhibits for children such as toy sailboat making, fossil making; sail boat rides, and local artist displays and sales. Free sailboat rides will be offered by Ferry Sloops aboard their 22’ sloop-rigged Catboat the “Whimbrel” on a first come first served basis. Cocktail Party to benefit the Else Bennett Scholarship

Mobile Passport Unit

Westchester County Clerk Timothy Idoni’s community outreach staff will be visiting the Municipal Building in the Mobile Passport Truck. The staff will be able to assist you in applying for a passport, renewing a passport, preserving military discharge papers, or filing a business certificate. In-person notary services will also be available.

Annual Tri-Municipal 9/11 Memorial Ceremony

The Annual Tri-Municipal 9/11 Memorial Ceremony will take place at 4:00 p.m on Monday, September 11, 2023 at the “Reaching Through the Shadow” Memorial at Croton Landing Park in Croton-on-Hudson, New York. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held indoors at the Harmon Firehouse, located at 30 Wayne Street, Croton.

Croton Friends of History: Presentation on the Destruction of Riverside Avenue

The Destruction of Riverside Avenue In September 1960 demolition began on Croton’s waterfront business district to construct Route 9. Riverside Avenue, from the intersection with Maple up to Farrington Road, was rerouted and most of the old buildings demolished. By the time the project was completed, parts of residential streets from Benedict Boulevard in Harmon up to Wolf Road were also eliminated, along with a beautiful Beaux Arts-style bridge across the mouth of the Croton River. Village Historian Marc Cheshire will recount the upheaval and loss from this seminal event in Croton’s history.

Village-Wide Tag Sale (Registration Open Now)

The Village of Croton-on-Hudson is pleased to announce that the 5th annual Village-Wide Tag Sale will be held on Saturday, September 23rd. There is a $10 registration fee per household to participate. No listings outside of the Village of Croton-on-Hudson please! A map will be published to highlight each residence that participates. New York Birders Conference

Gather with birders and birding leaders from across the Empire State—and birding friends from nearby Connecticut and northern New Jersey too—for a weekend celebrating the birds and birders of New York. Saw Mill River Audubon is the hosting organization for the 2023 New York Birders Conference / NYSOA Annual Meeting. Mobile Shredder

Westchester County is bringing the Mobile Shredder to Croton-on-Hudson on September 28th. Residents can bring up to 4 file-size (10”x12”x15”) boxes of confidential papers per household to Croton-on-Hudson from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for shredding. 
 
  • Please remove all large binder clips and covers. 
  • Papers from businesses institutions or commercial enterprises are not acceptable and will be rejected as will any junk mail or newspapers.
  • Hard covers – cardboard or plastic covers on items such as ledger books marble composition books and hard-cover books – cannot be shredded and will be turned away

39th Annual Croton Rotary Auto Show

The 39th Annual Croton Rotary Auto Show will take place on Sunday, October 1st at the Croton-Harmon Train Station. The show features classic cars and the Electric Vehicle Corral. There will be food and fun for the kids, with a special Balloon Show at 1pm.

Croton Business Council Oktoberfest

Saturday, October 7th (Rain Date October 14th), Noon to 6:00 PM
 
The Croton Business Council will host the Croton Oktoberfest on October 7 from 12 PM to 6 PM in the Upper Village on Grant Street. Over 65 Artisanal vendors from food, to drink, to retail, and a ramped up kinder-fest area for the little ones with bouncy houses galore and much much more! Live music all day, including The Blue Chips, Dos Belos, & The Black Coffee Blues Band. Shuttle bus transportation available from Croton Harmon Train Station all day long.
