Croton Free Library Tiny Art Show

Artists of all ages & skill levels can pick up a free mini-art kit at the Croton Free Library starting Monday, March 27th. Completed canvases should be returned to the Library by Monday, April 17th to be included in the month-long art show. 

Create art for the Library's Tiny Art Show & become a part of the Village's 125th anniversary celebration! Sustainable Paper Crafts

Crafting, but make it green! During the run-up to Earth Day, join us at the Croton Free Library for a more environmentally sustainable approach to paper crafts. Participants in this workshop will use upcycled paper materials for different projects on three consecutive Saturdays: April 8: blackout poetry April 15: book sculpture April 22: collage. All materials provided; just bring your creativity. Come to one, two, or all three sessions. Free and open to all, but space is limited! Restricted to 15 people per session. This program is suitable for anyone age 12+.

Croton Friends of History - Turn-of-the-Century Croton

Turn-of-the-Century Croton Using rare photographs and postcards from the Croton Historical Society and other sources, Village Historian Marc Cheshire will take us on a tour of Croton at the dawn of the 20th century. See familiar streets and buildings as they looked more than 100 years ago and discover long-lost treasures like Croton’s first train station, the barn at Van Cortlandt Manor, Gardiner estate on Hessian Hill, and much more.

Happy Birthday Croton Window Painting Contest
Saturday, April 15th, 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM
 

Help decorate the Village with birthday wishes to celebrate Croton's 125th Anniversary. Bring your creativity and show off your hometown pride! Registration will be available on April 3rd. Windows will be assigned & judged by the Village of Croton 125th Celebration Committee. Open to Village of Croton / School District children & families, Grades 3 – Adults. Registration Deadline: Wednesday, April 12, 2023. Applications Available Online & in-person at the Croton Recreation Department.


Croton Little League Opening Day Parade
Saturday, April 15th, 10:00 AM
Start at the High School, Old Post Road South, right on Grand Street and into Dobbs Field from the Grand Street side
 
The Croton Little League will once again be celebrating Opening Day with a parade! Starting in the parking lot of Croton-Harmon High School, the parade will continue down Old Post Road South to Grand Street and then east on Grand Street to Dobbs Park. Please anticipate short delays as the parade makes its way through the Upper Village.

Wild Women of the Blues: The Origins of American Popular Music

Join the Croton Free Library for a spectacular musical event: Wild Women of the Blues: The Origins of American Popular Music! Against a backdrop of oppression and segregation in the post-slavery era, musical artists like Ida Cox, Ma Rainey, Alberta Hunter, Billie Holliday, and Bessie Smith thrilled crowds across America. Kirsten Thien and Erik Boyd will perform select songs from these trailblazers' 1920s and '30s catalogs, demonstrating their original styles and describing their path to bringing the blues to life. Free and open to all! No registration required.
 

Hudson River Education Seminar - “People and Wildlife in the Hudson Valley”

Join the Croton Yacht Club for the annual Hudson River Education seminar. The event is FREE and open to the public. Scott Craven - author, historian, and former Ossining Police Captain - will discuss the historical relationship between people and wildlife in the Hudson Valley. Scott has lived along the banks of the Hudson River his entire life and is a boater, avid fly fisherman, and hiker, and co-authored the 2022 book “Croton Point Park: Westchester’s Jewel on the Hudson”.

The April Community Blood Drive will take place at Croton Free Library at 171 Cleveland Drive, Croton-on-Hudson, NY 10520.

Upper Village Walking Tour

Join Village Historian Marc Cheshire for a walking tour of the Upper Village of Croton-on-Hudson. Explore the history of buildings and streets in the heart of the Village. Discover little treasures hiding in plain sight and learn about what no longer exists. This walk will last approximately 2 hours & covers 1.3 miles, and includes stairs. Call for Artists: Village Voices, Croton's 125th Anniversary Art Show
Deadline for submission: May 1st, 2023
 
The 125th Anniversary Committee, in partnership with the Croton Council on the Arts and the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Hudson Valley, invites artists to submit work to the upcoming "Village Voices" Art Show, celebrating people and places from the Village of Croton-on-Hudson through photographs, paintings, sculpture, pottery, and more. The show will take place Sat. May 20 thru Sat. June 17 at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Hudson Valley (UUCHV), 2021 Albany Post Road, Croton, 10520. A reception will be held on Saturday, May 20, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. The reception is free and all are welcome. Artists may submit up to three images of work to the exhibit. There is no charge to submit work, and you need not live in Croton. If your work is selected for the show, you can register online and pay a small fee to exhibit ($10 if you're willing to gallery sit, $15 for seniors, and $20 for all others). 2023 Summer Camp Registration Open

Summer Camp registration is now open! There are two summer camp programs available: Tiny Tots, and Day Camp. Tiny Tots Summer Camp is a half day program, open to campers Ages 4-6. Camp activities include games, music, arts & crafts, entertainers, sprinkler days, story time, and more! The Day Camp program is open to youth who have completed Grades K-6. The day camp program includes arts, crafts, games, swimming, special events, trips and more. Registration Forms are available in the Recreation Department, the Croton Free Library, and online on the Recreation Department website. Early registration is encouraged. Questions? Kayak & Canoe Storage Rack Lottery Open

Kayak & Canoe storage is available at Echo Canoe Launch & Croton Landing. Village Residents may register for the upcoming season by lottery from March 15 – April 8. Afterwards, available spots will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Non-Residents / School District Residents may register after April 11. Limit 2 spots per household. Forms are available in the Recreation Office or download a printable version here. Full payment is required with registration - please make checks payable to "Village of Croton-on-Hudson".
