Calls Will Now Need Area Codes for Local Calls

845 and 914 area code numbers will be required to make 10 digit local calls starting Sunday, October 24
Starting Sunday, October 24th, those with a 914 or 845 area code will be required to dial full 10 digit numbers, including area code, in order to make a call. Calls dialed using 7 digits will no longer be accepted, instead, only 10 digit calls with area code will be successful.

This change is due to a nationwide area code shift enacted in order to make the National Suicide Prevention Line more accessible. This line can now be reached by dialing 988 starting in July of 2022. This shift has affected 82 area codes across 35 states, with 845 and 914 being two among them.

Individuals and businesses are encouraged to reprogram their phone lines and contact books to include full 10 digit phone numbers.
