Today is an Air Quality Alert Day!

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has issued an Air Quality Alert for the New York City Metro region for today, June 29.

The air quality is forecasted to reach levels considered unhealthy for Sensitive Groups. Residents can monitor local air quality conditions through the Village's Air Quality tracker, which reports real-time air quality data collected at sensors located at the Municipal Building and DPW Garage: https://www.crotononhudson-ny.gov/home/pages/air-quality-tracker. Additional information is available on DEC and on DOH websites.

June 28, 2023: Update on Canadian Wildfires and Air Quality in our Area

The Westchester County Health Department is closely monitoring the situation regarding the anticipated influx Wednesday, June 28 of fine particulate matter resulting from the Canadian wildfires in Quebec. We advise all residents to stay informed and take necessary precautions in response to potential changes in air quality. If the air quality decreases it is recommended that residents close their windows, operate their air conditioners, reduce strenuous outdoor activities and that all residents, particularly vulnerable individuals such as young children, pregnant women, and those with respiratory conditions or heart disease, limit their time outdoors.

A reminder that the Village of Croton-on-Hudson and Westchester County have enacted Anti-Idling Laws to prohibit the idling of vehicles for more than three consecutive minutes. Every minute of idling wastes fuel and affects the air quality of our area. Croton Police Officers will be issuing tickets to any vehicles found to be in violation of the law. Please do your part and not let your vehicle idle!
