Today is an Air Quality Alert Day!

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has issued an Air Quality Alert for the New York City Metro region for today, June 30.

The air quality is forecasted to reach levels considered unhealthy for Sensitive Groups. Residents can monitor local air quality conditions through the Village's Air Quality tracker, which reports real-time air quality data collected at sensors located at the Municipal Building and DPW Garage: https://www.crotononhudson-ny.gov/home/pages/air-quality-tracker. Additional information is available on DEC and on DOH websites.

N95 masks are available at the Municipal Building if you need a mask to help you deal with outdoor conditions. Residents may pick up a mask in the main office (Room 24) during normal office hours. Stay safe!

June 29, 2023: Update on Canadian Wildfires and Air Quality in our Area

The Westchester County Health Department released the following update on air quality conditions: "While the general public is not likely to be affected, vulnerable individuals such as young children, pregnant women, and those with respiratory conditions or heart disease, should limit their time outdoors. If the air quality continues to decrease it is recommended that residents close their windows, operate their air conditioners and reduce strenuous outdoor activities."

A reminder that the Village of Croton-on-Hudson and Westchester County have enacted Anti-Idling Laws to prohibit the idling of vehicles for more than three consecutive minutes. Every minute of idling wastes fuel and affects the air quality of our area. Croton Police Officers will be issuing tickets to any vehicles found to be in violation of the law. Please do your part and not let your vehicle idle!
