Do I Need to License My Dog?

New York State law requires all dogs over the age of four months to be licensed. Here are some reasons to license your dog (besides, of course, it being the law):

- Licensing prevents the spread of rabies: all licensed dogs must show proof of inoculation against rabies.

- Easy pet identification: simply provide the license tag number to the Police Dept. or Village Clerk's Office and the owner's information is readily available.

- Help care for/prevent lost animals: A portion of the license fee goes to support local animal control programs.

- Licensing allows you use of the Village's dog park, Black Rock Dog Park.

Download the dog license application and return via mail or the Village's drop box (no stamp required!) at the Municipal Building, 1 Van Wyck Street, along with a copy of your spay/neuter paperwork (if applicable) and a copy of your dog's most recent rabies vaccination.

Dog licenses are valid for one year. Once your dog is licensed, you will receive annual renewal forms in the mail before the license expiration date.

For more information, contact the Village office at 914-271-4781.
