Heat Advisory in Effect Today
A Heat Advisory is in effect for Westchester County from noon today, June 11, until 8 PM tomorrow, June 12. A Heat Advisory is issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 95 to 99 degrees for two or more consecutive days, or 100 to 104 degrees for any length of time.
Precautions to take during a Heat Advisory:
- Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
- Limit Outdoor Activities: Avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially during peak heat hours. If you must work outside, take frequent breaks in the shade or a cool place. Whenever possible, remain indoors during the hottest parts of the day, typically between 10 AM and 4 PM.
- Cool Environment: Use fans or air conditioning to stay cool. The Croton Free Library, located at 171 Cleveland Drive, is available for residents who need a place to cool down. Please check their website for current hours.
- Check on Vulnerable Neighbors: Ensure that elderly residents, young children, and those with health conditions are safe and cool.
As with all heat waves, the possibility exists for power outages/brownouts. Should you lose power, please report the outage to Con Edison at 1-800-75-CONED as well as the Croton Police Department at 914-271-5177.
