"This Far and No Further" Artist Book-Signing Talk with William Abranowicz

Through stunning photographs of locations, landscapes, and individuals,
award-winning photographer William Abranowicz connects us with the civil rights struggles of the 1960s, which were the impetus for and aftermath of Lorraine Hansberry's 1963 Rally for the Southern Freedom Movement, and its living legacy today. Abranowicz's book will available at Croton Dam Books at the same location, and his exhibition will be on view from June 11-24. Abranowicz's book talk, signing, and presentation will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2023, from 6:30-8:30 pm. In celebration of Croton's 125th Anniversary, the 125th Anniversary Committee, in conjunction with Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Hudson Valley and Croton Council on the Arts, has co-organized a major art exhibit titled "Village Voices" that features 101 exceptionally talented painters, sculptors, photographers and ceramic artists from Croton and nearby towns. The Village Voices Art Exhibit will remain open for viewing on Saturdays and Sundays, 1:00 - 3:00 pm, through June 18th. Make sure to stop by and experience this once-in-a-quasquicentennial show!

Join The Lorraine Hansberry Coalition on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the Croton Free Library, 71 Cleveland Drive, Croton-on-Hudson, NY, for a special screening of the documentary "Mississippi: Is This America? (1963-1964) Freedom Summer,” part of the award-winning Eyes on the Prize television series that traces the history of civil rights in the United States from 1954-1980. After the screening, there will be a moderated discussion with Steven Lance, Policy Counsel at the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF). Space is limited at all commemoration events.

Croton Harmon Community Tennis Association Clinics & Lessons

The Croton Harmon Community Tennis Association (aka Croton Community Tennis) is a not-for-profit community organization of the USTA, formed and run by volunteers to maintain the red clay courts at PVC Middle School and offer tennis programming and lessons for the Croton community. Healthy Yards has scheduled a county-wide Open Gardens Day to visit private and public gardens featuring pollinator plantings.
In Croton-on-Hudson, the Arboretum will have a professional garden designer on hand in our pollinator and other specialty gardens to
identify and answer questions about the best plants for success in local gardens throughout all four seasons of the year.
Join the group near parking lot inside the Arboretum to learn what works for you. The Arboretum lies 1,000 feet from the end of Fox Road, on a gravel road crossing Hudson National Golf Course.

125th Anniversary Boat Flotilla

Croton River
The Croton community is invited to float down the Croton River at this year’s 125th Anniversary Boat Flotilla, a floating parade hosted by the Croton 125th Anniversary Committee. The floating parade will start at 10:00 AM. Boats will launch from Echo Canoe Launch, paddle up to Fireman's Island, turn around, and stop at Mayo's landing for a talk by Croton Historian Marc Cheshire about the old mill. The route is approximately 4 miles and will take about 2 hours to complete, and is considered a 2 out of 10 in difficulty level. Difficulty may vary depending on the flow of the current from the dam upstream. The flotilla will be led by the Croton Police Department Boat. A light lunch will be provided at the end of the paddle.
