Weekly Police Blotter: March 15 - March 21

A selection of incidents from the police blotter of the Croton-on-Hudson Police Department. Please note that the below information is public record and does not constitute all calls received by the department during the period.

Call Type: Alarm - Commercial
Narrative: Alarm company reported an activated burglar alarm for a local business. Patrol responded and reported the exterior is secure.

Call Type: Mutual Aid
Narrative: New York State Police called for mutual aid assistance in pursuing a suspect's vehicle. The vehicle ultimately crashed near ShopRite and the suspects fled on foot. The male driver and female suspect were apprehended by state police. The defendant was arraigned in Village Justice Court on multiple charges and remanded to the Westchester County Jail. A stay away order of protection was issued to protect a juvenile female. NYSP handling investigation and arrest.

Narrative: A water department employee reported that a fire hydrant appears to have been knocked over by a vehicle that left the scene at South Riverside Avenue and Municipal Place, . Skid marks are in the roadway and vehicle parts are strewn about the area. Patrol dispatched and reported that the incident may be related to the vehicle pursuit from earlier. Patrol to follow up with NYSP.

Narrative: Caller reported her neighbor's black dog keeps getting loose and running into her yard. Caller unsure of dog owner's name or house number. Patrol dispatched to caller's residence. Patrol interviewed caller and then responded to a Grand street residence and spoke to the owner of dog. Owner reported her fence is damaged and that is how her dog keeps getting loose. Patrol issued verbal warning. Dog is licensed.

Narrative: Caller reported large back dog loose on her property. Caller believes dog belongs to her neighbor on Glengary Road. Patrol dispatched and interviewed caller, and then responded to neighbor’s residence and spoke to owner. Patrol issued verbal warning. Dog not licensed; Village Clerk notified.

Narrative: Croton Fire Department apparatus dispatched to location for an inside odor of gas. Patrol dispatched. Fire personnel handling

Location: Wells Fargo Bank
Call Type: 911 - Welfare Check
Narrative: Caller on 911 from Wells Fargo reported that he is updating the phone system at that location and is testing the phone. He reported that the bank is currently closed. Patrol responded and confirmed workers are upgrading phone system.

Narrative: While at prior call, patrol officers reported being flagged down regarding a wire down on Maple Street. At the same time multiple callers reported a wire in the roadway near 95 Maple Street. Patrols responded and reported wire was going to a Maple Street residence and was disconnected from the house. Patrol able to move wire out of roadway but wire is now on sidewalk. Verizon notified and will correct condition in the morning.

Narrative: Caller requested Croton EMS for her daughter who is experiencing a prolonged seizure. Patrols and Croton EMS dispatched. CEMS transported the aided to the hospital.

Call Type: Assault
Narrative: Caller reported her adult son just assaulted her and left her residence. Caller provided a description of her son to the desk officer and stated he was possibly carrying a knife. Patrols dispatched and reported the suspect was in custody a short while later. Croton EMS was dispatched for the assault victim and transported her to the hospital. The defendant was charged with Assault in the 3rd Degree and Criminal Obstruction of Breathing. He was arraigned in the Croton Village Justice Court. An order of protection was issued and the defendant was released on his own recognizance.

Narrative: A resident of Van Wyck Street reported that her wallet was taken from her unlocked car in the Van Wyck Shopping Center last Saturday. She stated her vehicle, a blue Toyota RAV4, was parked in the first row of spaces by the post office. Supporting paperwork completed and MV78b issued for obtaining a new NYS driver’s license.

Narrative: Ossining Police telephoned to report having a suspect in custody who has an active warrant from the Croton Police Department. Patrols responded to Ossining and took the suspect into custody. Defendant was also wanted by the Yorktown Police Department, who were notified and responded to take custody of the suspect.

Narrative: Caller reported that someone stole the lugs nuts off his vehicle sometime in the past - possibly overnight. He also stated that there have been other things missing from his property. Patrols dispatched to location. Patrols conducted a preliminary investigation and filed a case report.

Narrative: Caller reported a vehicle at location parked illegally. Patrol responded and issued a parking summons for no parking zone.

Narrative: 911 caller requested an ambulance for an unresponsive but breathing resident. Croton EMS responded and aided transported to the hospital.

Call Type: Medical Alert Alarm
Narrative: 60 Control dispatched Croton EMS to the above location for a medical alert activation with no contact. Patrols and Croton EMS responded and determined it to be an accidental activation.

Narrative: Alarm company reported there is an unspecified perimeter burglar alarm at the above location. Patrol dispatched and reported accidental activation by homeowner.

Call Type: Fraudulent Activities
Narrative: A Wells Avenue resident reported being scammed out of $42,500 by an unknown person via the internet. He stated he was contacted by whom he thought was Microsoft regarding possible fraud on his computer and in the course of speaking with the unknown person, he was told he would need to wire money to an account in Thailand. Victim went to his bank in Ossining and wired the money from his personal account. Patrols assigned and conducted a preliminary investigation and prepared report.

Narrative: Caller reported that another vehicle hit his vehicle while parked in the ShopRite parking lot. The vehicle that struck his vehicle is now parked next to his but operator of the vehicle left. Patrol dispatched and interviewed caller. Footage of other vehicle involved viewed on caller's Tesla camera. Patrol interviewed other operator as she exited store. Report filed.

Call Type: Order of Protection violation
Narrative: Resident reported her ex-boyfriend may have contacted her via text message in violation of an order of protection that she has against him through Putnam County Court. The text message she received came from a phone number that she does not recognize but she believes it came from him. Patrols interviewed victim further and completed a domestic incident report. Patrols to follow up.

Narrative: 911 caller stated a late model black sedan is traveling on Route 9 going northbound in the southbound lane. Patrol dispatched and canvassed the area, and reported the vehicle was gone on arrival.

Narrative: Caller reported a disabled vehicle blocking Municipal Place. Patrol on scene to assist. Vehicle was towed by the dealership. Condition corrected.

Narrative: Caller requested an ambulance for his father who fell. Patrol and Croton EMS dispatched. Aided transported to the hospital.

Narrative: Caller requested an ambulance for an MTA employee stuck between two pieces of machinery. Patrol dispatched and reported MTA PD already on scene as well as the Croton Fire Department and Croton EMS, who are handling the scene.

Narrative: Caller stated her daughter fainted from stomach pains. Patrol dispatched, 60 Control notified. Aided transported, BLS to WCMC.

Narrative: Alarm company reported a commercial burglary alarm at the Croton-Harmon High School; activation in Nurse's Office. Patrol responded and reported all appears secure. The alarm company called back a short while later reporting the same alarm activation and that they will contact a key holder.

Narrative: Caller reported people not wearing masks while inside a local business. Patrol responded and reported all parties involved left prior to arrival.

Narrative: Caller reported her carbon monoxide detector is going off inside her home. Patrol and Croton Fire Department apparatus responded. CFD personnel checkedt the residence and found negative readings. Alarm set off by faulty detector.

Narrative: Detectives emptied the contents of the drug dropbox in the CPD lobby. Contents weighed approximately 40 pounds. Same secured in evidence to be destroyed at a future date.

Narrative: Caller reported that a female pedestrian was struck by a Metro-North truck at the entrance to the Harmon Yards. Patrol dispatched and MTA PD notified. Croton EMS and Fire Department apparatus responded. Aided transported to the hospital by CEMS. Accident report to be filed.

Narrative: Caller requested Croton EMS for an unresponsive resident. Croton EMS dispatched with paramedic to location. CEMS transported aided party to the hospital.

Narrative: Caller reported there is a vehicle parked across the street from the restaurant 105Twenty playing loud music. Patrols responded and report subject was advised and complied.

Narrative: Caller reported tree and power lines down on Hessian Hills Road near Hixson Road blocking the roadway. Patrol dispatched and confirmed same. Con Ed notified of condition.

Narrative: Caller requested Croton EMS for her elderly uncle who fell inside the home and does not want her to pick him up. Patrols and Croton EMS responded. Aided transported to the hospital.

Location: Batten Road – Town of Cortlandt
Call Type: Motor Vehicle Accident
Narrative: Caller reported receiving a phone call from her son approximately 30 minutes in the past saying he was involved in an accident on Batten Road. Caller reported her son dialed 911 but no one has responded yet. The operator struck a utility pole and his air bags have deployed. Patrol dispatched. NYSP notified and responded with Croton EMS. NYSP is handling the accident.

Narrative: Caller stated an unknown person struck and damaged his vehicle this morning while parked on Grand Street. Caller stated he did not see the accident but a neighbor left a note on his car saying she heard the accident around 6:40 a.m. and may have seen the car involved. Patrol dispatched and spoke with caller. Accident report filed by patrols.

Narrative: Caller reported an unknown person filed a fraudulent claim with the NYS Department of Labor using his identity to file for unemployment benefits. Caller reported he received a debit card in his name. He has not applied for unemployment benefits and is currently employed. He has notified NYS Dept. of Labor and credit bureaus.

Narrative:  An individual reported that he has texted and called his son's mobile phone and wanted a record made indicating he was at police headquarters waiting for his son. He indicated his son has not responded back and due to a temporary order of protection he cannot communicate with his son's mother. Record made for future court hearing/appearances concerning custody issues.

Narrative: Alarm company reported an activated burglar alarm at the court clerk's office in the Municipal Building. Patrols responded and reported a cleaning crew on site.

Narrative: The Croton Fire Department was dispatched to the area of Brook Street for an odor of natural gas. Con Ed gas and patrols responded. Patrols reported that the CFD is investigating. Patrols stood by for traffic control.

Call Type: Disabled Vehicle
Narrative: Caller reported a grey vehicle may be disabled on the northbound exit of Route 9 near Croton Point Avenue. Patrols reported the vehicle is off the ramp on the shoulder and a tow is responding. Registration is valid.

Call Type: Suspicious Incident
Narrative: Caller reported that she possibly observed a large drone in her Wells Avenue neighborhood about thirty minutes in the past. She thought it had red type lights and it was noisy.   No further reports received from the neighborhood. Patrols checked the area with negative results.

Narrative: NYPD telephoned regarding a call they received from the Suicide Prevention Hotline about a party who was feeling suicidal and wanted to drive her vehicle into a tree. The suicidal party's address came back to the NYSP jurisdiction. NYSP was contacted and they were able to make contact with the suicidal party. State Police is handling.

Narrative: Caller requested an ambulance for her mother who has difficulty breathing. Patrol dispatched and reported CEMS transported aided to the hospital.

Narrative: Caller reported an odor of gas from a manhole at location. The Croton Fire Department was dispatched and patrol responded. Croton FD reported that the smell is coming from the storm drain and it could be a dead animal.

Narrative: Patrol reported stopping a blue 2007 Honda Civic with Pennsylvania license plates for speeding. Upon investigation, it was determined the vehicle was unregistered and had an expired inspection. Tow requested for the vehicle. Patrol issued summonses and provided a courtesy ride for the vehicle operator and passenger to the Croton-Harmon Train Station. Patrol confiscated marijuana from the vehicle and logged same into evidence.

Narrative: The Croton Fire Department was dispatched for an unknown pipe that was struck by homeowner. Patrol sent to location and reported owner thought he might have struck the gas line.

Narrative: Caller reported being concerned about teenagers climbing a wall in the back of his property. He requested poatrols make frequent checks after school hours.

Narrative: Caller reported that 2 unknown males might have been following her around Croton earlier today around 10:45 a.m. License plate of vehicle provided. Caller reported having taken a photo of the vehicle. Caller reported no crime occurred but wanted the incident documented.

Narrative: Caller reported being involved in a two-car motor vehicle accident. Patrol dispatched and will file a report.

Narrative: Patrol reported a second motor vehicle accident on Route 9 while investigating the previous accident. Patrol to file a report.

Narrative: Caller reported a large party at Spencer Field. Patrol checked the area but the individuals were gone on arrival. Patrol found a beer keg and a book bag with a nintendo switch inside. Patrol placed property into inventory for safekeeping.

Narrative: Unknown caller reported a noise complaint of music coming from an apartment upstairs from his on Grand Street. Patrols responded and advised the parties. Condition corrected.

Narrative: Caller reporting a white Australian shepherd dog loose on old post road north in the area of Lounsbury Road.  Second call reporting a similar dog crossed route 9 in the area of the Senasqua Road overpass.  Patrol dispatched.  Patrol checked the area with negative results.

Narrative: Caller reported a 70-year-old male who is not feeling well and requested an ambulance. Patrol and Croton EMS dispatched. Patrols reported aided being transported to the hospital.

Narrative: Caller reported that she believed her ex, who she has an order of protection against, filed fraudulent child protective services claims against her and her current boyfriend.  Caller was advised to follow up with Child Protective Services and Family Court.

Narrative: Caller reported losing his wallet while on a bicycle ride around the village. Caller stated that he rode from A&S Deli to Senasqua Park and the Duck Pond. Incident documented.

Narrative: Alarm company reported never receiving the daily test signal for the Municipal Workshop building. DPW Foreman notified, who stated he will resolve on Monday morning.
