Pilot Food Scrap Recycling Program

Food Scrap Recycling Program

This January, the Village of Croton-on-Hudson will be conducting a pilot Food Scrap Recycling Program to provide residents the opportunity to reduce waste by composting unused food scraps.

The pilot, funded by a grant secured by the Sustainability Committee, will enroll 40 Croton households in a free six-month program that will allow them to drop off bagged food scraps to be collected weekly and transported to a nearby commercial composting facility. The program will provide the Village and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation with valuable information on how the process of food scrap co-collection can reduce carbon emissions, cut back on food waste, and save taxpayer money on municipal waste disposal costs.

All materials and equipment will be provided at no charge. The program will run from Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023 through Saturday, June 24, 2023.

10/24/22 UPDATE: The Pilot Program is at capacity and is now closed to new registrants.
