Message from Chief Harper on COVID-19 Scams

Dear Village Residents:

It is important that during these trying times we all keep our guard up for unusual situations. In particular, it seems that scam artists tend to prey on the public when they feel we are at the most vulnerable, like during the holidays or when we have lost a family member.

Let’s all do our best to not let that happen here in Croton. If you receive a phone call that doesn’t feel right, or someone comes to your door that is not familiar to you, please call the non-emergeny line at 914-271-5177. If it is an emergency situation, dial 911. Remember to never give out any personal information or allow someone into your home if you are not sure of their authority to ask or do so.

A new scam is being conducted by persons claiming to be from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) stating they are testing individuals for COVID-19. None of these scams have been reported in the Village of Croton-on-Hudson, but be advised that no person from the CDC or any other agency would show up at your home unannounced to test for COVID-19.

If someone should come to your home claiming to be from the CDC or if you are unsure of anyone’s identity or intentions, please call the Croton Police Department immediately.

Best wishes and please stay healty.

Sincerely,

Chief Russel H. Harper
