Labor Day Message from the Mayor

Labor Day is the day that we celebrate and recognize the spirit, strength, and contributions of working men and women across this nation and across time.

American workers have made the prosperity of our country possible. Just as importantly, through the labor movement, they created institutions and laws to help share that abundance. From the minimum wage, to Social Security, to the Affordable Care Act, to paid family leave, labor has built both America and America’s middle class.

As we celebrate Labor Day, I want to thank the essential workers that have held our society together while facing a threat few of us could have imagined.  This time has been utterly unprecedented, and we have had to deal with extraordinary challenges.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to recognize the hard work and courage of our village workforce in facing this terrible pandemic and working to keep one another safe while continuing to serve our community.

On Labor Day we acknowledge the debt this country owes to its workers of hand and mind. We should also recognize our common responsibility to preserve and strengthen the democratic principles which have made labor and our country strong.

Sincerely,

Mayor Brian Pugh
