Croton Academy of Arts Registration

CAA is offering a new after-school arts enrichment program at Croton-Harmon Schools for elementary students through adults, providing even more programs to meet the creative, skill-building and artistic needs of our community in convenient locations. Annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony

Please join the Town of Cortlandt and the Villages of Buchanan and Croton-on-Hudson as we remember those who were lost 18 years ago during the September 11th attacks. A shuttle bus will be provided from the parking lot to the memorial site. Those who wish to walk to the site should arrive by 4 PM.
 
Croton Girl Scouts Open House
Thursday, September 12 – 6:30 to 8 PM

Learn more about what Girl Scouting offers! Kids will meet other Girl Scouts and try out fun STEM activities, work on outdoor skills and learn some Girl Scouts traditions. (Did anybody say S’mores?) Drop-in any time to take part in the fun! Refreshments will be served. Community leaders will be there to answer parents’ questions about the benefits of the Girl Scouts leadership program. Croton Trails Clean-Up

Join members of the Croton Trails Committee to help clean up the various trails in the Village. Meet at the entrance to the Croton Arboretum.
 
Second Saturday Bird Walk

Brinton Brook Sanctuary
 
The monthly second Saturday walks at Brinton Brook continue year-round. No registration needed. Rain or shine. Meet in main parking area. Good for adults and young people age 8 and up. Held regardless of weather except in cases of severe weather or road closures.
 
Croton Reservoir & Dam Hike
Sunday, September 15 – 2 PM
Croton Gorge Park
 
Easy 2-mile (total) hike north along the Aqueduct and atop the beautiful Croton Dam.  Meet near the restrooms at the parking lot at Croton Gorge Park. (Note: parking fee of $10 May – Sept.)  The leader of the hike will discuss the history and construction of the Old Croton Aqueduct and the features of the Croton Dam, the trailhead of the Aqueduct Trail.  The Aqueduct was completed in 1842 to supply water to a thirsty New York City. Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body: Tips from the Latest Research

Jessica Flores, of the Hudson Valley Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, offers a presentation designed for the general public. Learn about lifestyle habits that we can adopt at any time in life to help keep our brains and bodies healthy as we age, and possibly delay the onset of cognitive decline. Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge: Where Birds, Horses & People Share

Bill and Carolyn Golden will be presenting their photographs of the birds from the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge. They have spent the last 14 years living in Virginia as well as Westchester County. Their dual residency has enabled them to photograph a great number of the birds that inhabit and migrate through the preserve.
 
Mobile Passport Unit Comes to Croton

Westchester County Clerk Timothy Idoni’s community outreach staff can take your photo and process your passport application when they visit the Municipal Building. Please visit the Village website for more information, such as what documents to bring and the application costs.
 
Mezzo-Soprano Kelly Guerra with Pianist Michael Skelly

Peruvian-American mezzo-soprano Kelly Guerra and classical pianist Michael Skelly return to the Croton Free Library to present a sparkling program, including Peter Lieberson’s “Neruda Songs,” passionate settings of Pablo Neruda’s poetry. Kelly Guerra was most recently noted as a “standout” in the Wall Street Journal for her performance at the Tanglewood Music Center as Mrs. Doc in Leonard Bernstein’s A Quiet Place. Michael Skelly has been a full-time member of the piano faculty at Columbia University for over 30 years. Enjoy an enthralling evening of collaborative music featuring works by Charles Ives, Gustav Mahler, Alma Mahler, and Peter Lieberson, including moving selections especially appropriate for National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 through October 15).
