Carrie E. Tompkins Annual Cultural Night

Carrie T. Tompkins Elementary School will host its annual CULTURAL NIGHT on the CET field from 6:00 TO 8:30 pm. Families will be setting up booths from 20 countries. There will be music, dancing, crafts, and FOOD. The event will end with an international fashion show! Free, open to all.

Bluebird Trail Dedication

The Croton Rotary Club has created a Bluebird Trail which will be dedicated as a special Earth Day event. Please gather at this sign near the Croton Landing parking lot and join Mayor Brian Pugh, members of the Board of Trustees, Croton’s Bird Commissioner Cary Andrews, Rotary leadership and others as we officially inaugurate Croton’s new Bluebird Trail.

The Old Mill Singers 50th Anniversary Concerts

The Old Mill Singers are celebrating their 50th Anniversary with a special concert on June 3rd and June 4th. (Please note: there are two concert dates and times. Saturday, June 3rd at 7PM and Sunday, June 4th at 3PM. The concert length is approximately 2-3 hours). The concert is in memory of the founding and 40 year musical director, Gary Bratt, and longstanding member and President, John Massey. The concert will include a wide range of musical selections from rock and pop to show tunes, classical and some of our honorees' favorites. Something for everyone! Summerfest 2023 Parade

The Summerfest fun will kick off with a parade down Old Post Road, starting at Veterans Corners and moving to the Dummy Light on Grand Street. Over 30 local groups will be participating in this year's parade, which features a special homage to the Village's 125th Anniversary. Expect antique cars, floats, music, bagpipes, mascots, puppets, and more! This year's distinguished Grand Marshal is Bill McCabe, President of Croton EMS. A map of the parade route is available here - the parade will begin marching at 12:45 PM.

Summerfest 2023 Street Fair

From 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM, the streets of the Upper Village (Grand Street/Old Post Road South) will be filled with live music, entertainment, delicious food & OVER 100 street vendors. This year, expect more food options than ever - BBQ, tacos, empanadas, bao buns, wraps, wings, lobster rolls, mac n cheese, burgers, craft beverages, cakes, pies, Italian ice, rootbeer floats, and more! There will be two stages featuring live music from The Blue Chips, Harmony Road, and Dos Belos. Games and activities will include face painting, sand art, a piñata bash, a pie eating contest, and interactive tours of Village fire trucks and construction vehicles. Community volunteer groups and service organizations such as the Croton Lions, Croton Rotary, Croton EMS, Croton Caring Committee, Croton Housing Network and others will be present to hand out information about their organizations and upcoming events.

ADULT 60+ PROGRAM: Famous Women Photographers Lecture Series

Four Tuesdays in June - June 6th; June 13; June 20; June 27, 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM

Participants will view the artwork of selected famous women photographers including Dorothea Lange, Diane Arbus, Annie Leibovitz, Vivian Maier, Sally Mann, Cindy Sherman, and others. Prof. Susan Courtney will discuss the time period in which they lived, influences on their content and style, impact on the art world, & personal life. This program is provided by Westchester Community College Mainstream Program and funded through the US Department of Health & Human Services — Administration on Aging (AoA), New York State Office for the Aging, and Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services.

Croton Point Nature & History Hike

Croton Point Park Naturalist John Phillips and Village of Croton Historian Marc Cheshire will lead a hike on Saturday, June 10, at 9 a.m. to explore Croton Point’s history, natural history, archaeology, and geology. The hike will last roughly 1.5 to 2 hours. This event is free. Meet at the gate to the RV park, where parking is available. Ages 6 and up; wear sturdy shoes. The same hike will take place on June 17.

Croton Free Library: World Knit in Public Day

June 10 is World Wide Knit in Public Day, and we're celebrating at the Croton Free Library! Bring your works-in-progress and we'll craft together on the front lawn. Crafters of all stripes are welcome — it doesn't have to be knitting. Grab some yarn to swap or give away, get expert help from skilled knitting instructor Lori Cohen, and meet other local fiber-lovers! Rain or shine. If the weather's bad, we'll go inside the Library. KICKOFF EVENT: Croton Commemorates Lorraine Hansberry's Rally for Freedom

The Kickoff Event for Croton-on-Hudson's two-week-long, 60th anniversary commemoration of the Rally to Support the Southern Freedom Movement, which Lorraine Hansberry, renowned author, playwright (A Raisin in the Sun), civil rights activist, and denizen of Croton-on-Hudson, organized and chaired at Temple Israel of Northern Westchester on June 16, 1963. All events are free. The Croton Free Library is excited to host Carla & Keyes for a special performance on the roots of African-American music! Their interactive performance encompasses the centuries-old history of African-American music, from work songs and spirituals through blues, ragtime, jazz, R&B, rap and hip hop. They'll also talk about music related to the upcoming holiday of Juneteenth. Family-friendly and good for all ages! Free and open to all. No tickets required; first come, first served!

"This Far and No Further" Artist Book-Signing Talk with William Abranowicz

Through stunning photographs of locations, landscapes, and individuals, award-winning photographer William Abranowicz connects us with the civil rights struggles of the 1960s, which were the impetus for and aftermath of Lorraine Hansberry's 1963 Rally for the Southern Freedom Movement, and its living legacy today. Abranowicz's book will available at Croton Dam Books at the same location, and his exhibition will be on view from June 11-24. Village Voices Art Exhibit

In celebration of Croton's 125th Anniversary, the 125th Anniversary Committee, in conjunction with Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Hudson Valley and Croton Council on the Arts, has co-organized a major art exhibit titled "Village Voices" that features 101 exceptionally talented painters, sculptors, photographers and ceramic artists from Croton and nearby towns. The Village Voices Art Exhibit will remain open for viewing on Saturdays and Sundays, 1:00 - 3:00 pm, through June 18th. Make sure to stop by and experience this once-in-a-quasquicentennial show!

Join The Lorraine Hansberry Coalition on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the Croton Free Library, 71 Cleveland Drive, Croton-on-Hudson, NY, for a special screening of the documentary "Mississippi: Is This America? (1963-1964) Freedom Summer,” part of the award-winning Eyes on the Prize television series that traces the history of civil rights in the United States from 1954-1980. After the screening, there will be a moderated discussion with Steven Lance, Policy Counsel at the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc.
