The Crossining

In 1993, the Village of Croton-on-Hudson and the Village and Town of Ossining jointly approved a resolution strongly urging the New York State Department of Transportation to include a sidewalk and bicycle path as part of its reconstruction of the Route 9/9A Bridge over the Croton River. The Greenway Council worked with the NYS DOT to facilitate this project.  Completed in 1999, this walkway/bicycle path, now known as the Crossining, provides a key linkage from the Old Croton Aqueduct State Historic Park  and the Village of Ossining to the Croton Trail Systems. The total cost for the reconstruction of the Route 9/9A bridge funded by New York State Department of Transportation came to $15,000,000.   This new esplanade is heavily used by residents of Ossining who are able to walk to the Croton-Harmon train station as well as many Croton residents who have access to the Old Croton Acqueduct State Historic Park trail system.
