Update on Metro North Fuel Spill
The following is an update on Metro-North's cleanup efforts at Croton-Harmon Yard.
We have now recovered 13,198 gallons of diesel in liquid form, and approximating we have recovered another 1,000 gallons in the 650 tons of soil we have removed. Several of the temporary recovery wells we have been pumping are showing less and less diesel in them. We have been delineating the plume and have reached clean areas to the south, east and west. So we are focusing on the northeast area towards our tracks and shop where there still appears to be a significant amount of diesel and are going to install a more permanent recovery system, hopefully a recovery trench or string of recovery wells, and these will be used to continue to remove diesel and keep it from migrating. The geologist on site feels that the clean up is progressing well.
